By my calculations, there are only 43,281 more boomboxes to choose from. Best thread ever!

That's now the best sounding

But you can do better than 270. Offer 200, and only if everything works.

It has a dented grill, and a small volume knob (There's another version with a large volume knob). Also, ask him if all the lights work. People who sell those things often neglect to reveal that the lights are broken. There are supposed to be 4 lights: 1 behind each of the 3 meters, and another on the right side of the tuning scale. Also, ask him if it has been used by a smoker, as those models were often used in restaurants and bars and collect heavy cigarette odor and discoloration.

This is how it's suppose to look lit up 👍. It is the best sounding of the units except when battery operated.

Gerbil, no matter how long you wait to find the perfect boombox, you will ultimately want another one... and another one... and another one...

You have been given several really good suggestions based on what you are looking at. Pick one of those and start enjoying it. Then start saving money for the next boombox. :-)

I meant this in a good way, it elludes to a thought i have almost every day. One way of getting through my day is the 20 minutes at lunch browsing the forums or ebay for boxes.

Ok then. For this reason I put so many boxes to see which are best, perhaps there are others who read this topic and want to buy a good box but do not know what to choose.
Sharp 767's seller reduced price. Now costs 292 euro. I follow the auction that the price may fall further.

It's not like shopping for a new piece of sound equipment. Literally, every Boombox out there will be in a different condition electronically depending on useage and storage conditions. Literally none of my boomers ever worked as advertised.

You can search for ever and still end up with a box with a bad amp or weak tuner etc. Unless you're buying a freshly serviced or restored boomer, chances are you're buying a recently found yard sale box or maybe a box that's been rejected from a collectors stash due to difficult to repair operational faults.

Don't worry, we've all been there!! And don't believe the EBay sellers 'fully working' claims - they almost never work 100% out of the box.

My suggestion is to look at buying a box from a member that has been fully serviced by someone who knows what the hell they're doing. If you're good with the tools, then buy a yard sale box - there is plenty of help here if you need it.

Great thread, keep the boxes comming gerbil haha, i sugest you find one of the big sonys like the fh909, blows away every box in this brilliant thread although it dosen't take batteries but i wouldn't want to lug one of these around anyway :-)

You need to decide what's important to you. Looks? Sound? Value? Lightweight portability? You can't have everything in one box.

I agree with what Jimmy said. Most likely the box you get if not from a trusted member who has already restored it will end up needing restoration. Decks and cleaning are usually the largest parts of restorations. And if you are looking for something to try and restore my advice is get something cheap and easy to learn first 😉
