What Boombox Are You Cranking Up Right Now??

Vampire weekend's excellent album "Modern Vampires of the City" is mostly recorded flat agin the end stop so it was going to be a tough challenge for the recently acquired Watson to render it reliably right? Er, no. Look how the meters jump right to the top of the VU scale at a few bars into the tune, this thing can cope with mp3 recordings no trouble at all. Rubbish video but I still have the blood stains down the back of my jaw at either side where my ears bled! Looky here, this is "Worship You" off that album, obviously recorded before the studio engineer told the band how to turn a knob anti-clockwise:

Then I gave Watson a bit of "Can't get blue monday out of my mind" with apologies to New Order and to that lovely wee Kylie for abusing a great tune and one of hers:

It looks cheap and shiny, it doesn't weigh too much but by f**k it can blast. A/F chips are the same as those found in my Technics, this Watson has proper woofers (8" and with foam suspension) proper tweeters (I'd expected piezo-statics but no, these are 2" doped paper cones with voice coils) and that crazy LED array that's reflected all around the inside of its triangular enclosure to give the impression that there are about 80 separate diodes in there. There are significantly fewer. ;-)

Unfortunately I'm not and I won't be cranking any boomboxes... my Sharp VZ1500 however is hopefully soon to be playing beautifully... I know it isn't actually a boombox but given that it's the predecessor to a family I hoped someone might be able to give me some directions on repair... The tracking arm keeps sticking while it's trying to change sides at the far end and I can't get the thing open to see if I can fix it... I apologise for posting this in the wrong thread, but I've literally just signed up and have no idea where to look for an answer, if there even would be one on here.. thanks.

One of my favorite looking boxes. Glad to hear it performs well. THAT is a Street Blaster and no one's gonna disrespect a man on the corner with that bad boy :nonono:
