Ohhh awesome work, OSS!! That's very similar to how I've made stickers before.
For this project I want to use all plastic though, I'm not confident in the longevity of printed paper, even sealed.

I've found another printshop that can do the white on clear too! Will send them some gear off tomorrow and get a quote.

I had considered changing the main panels sticker colour too, as Zorlac suggested. But I think it'll get too busy and detract from the stripes if the controls are too colourful. Although this is very bright and over the top the whole design has been a measured process of making sure it walks a line between clean design and too busy one. There's a lot of text on middle main panel, and though a lot of me would love to do it in pinks and blues, I think white will look the best.

And also, as Zorlac says, I can get another sticker made up in another colour to see how it looks as well if I decide white does, in fact, not have enough pop.

It's really all up to how she looks once the stripe stickers go on. No amount of photoshop mock ups can give the real impression of how she'll look. so once they go on the text can be further tinkered with.

Thanks again with all the help guys!!

Thanks guys!

One more thing on the different coloured text for the control topic, theres something I just remembered last night.

The main reason, aside from personal aesthetic taste, for keeping the the text white was so it matched the panel above the cassette deck keys.
This panel has music scanner, timer standby text and the music search number display. As this is printed from the inside on a clear panel it would mean making a
sticker to go over it as well which is something I didn't want to do as it's such a small and fiddly area.

But, I may make up a separate sticker for this eventually, depending how much patience/sanity I have left when all the other control stickers are printed and fitted.

The first concession has had to be made unfortunately.
After an exhaustive search of every retailer of spray paint in my town it's come to pass that there is zero aqua spray paint available.
This is disappointing!! But, if you pay close attention to the mock up, the blue on the bottom of the speaker grills is actually a very light blue, and I've managed to match that colour almost 100%. With spray paint I'm limited to whay is available locally as it's prohibited to ship aerosol cans through the post.

The blue is ON however and is looking rather striking!

The only other hiccup so far is that I compleltely forgot about the battery cover. So that's been undercoated and will be pinked up later tonight.

In better news the speaker grills are nearly done and look awesome!!

More pix to follow later on today.

Just a thought... there is one way around the lack of correct-color spray paint cans. That is to get/use a compressed-air paint sprayer, the kind they use for spraying cars and such. You can put ANY color of liquid paint in one, and spray it on, so you can use a custom-mixed paint to get the exact color you want. Kind of expensive, but you might get a cheap used one. They come in different sizes, with different nozzles; some of them are small "hobbyist" types made for painting scale models and such. The results with a sprayer like that are a lot smoother and more professional-looking than what you get from spray cans. It doesn't matter for something like graffiti art on a rough wall, but on a boombox, it might be good to be able to control the paint application so well.

Still, your box looks fantastic so far  .... inspirational to see work like this. It has me thinking about what I might do to my most beat-up M90, when I have time... Hhhmnmm.... :-D

[And in case anyone is wondering, yes, I'm the same "Arkay" from that other board... it only took me a while to get on here! Nice to see some familiar names around here. Haven't done much with boomboxes (other than look at them and sometimes listen to them) for a while, except pick up a couple more.]

Wow!! Arkay's here!! Awesome!

Thanks for the kind words Arkay! I am looking at investing in an air brush set up in the near future.
I really wanted to do this project 'old skool' style using spray cans as choice of medium on purpose.

But I'm loving doing this so much that I think I'll invest in an air brush and do a lot more custom paint jobs.
Spray cans are a very limiting medium on a small object, for someone of my very limited skill, so that will be the next logical step.

Now I need to start getting some more doubles of boxes to start customising!!

Great to hear from you, Arkay. Hope you can post regularly!

Hahah!

I'm doing the back first, as I figured it'd be the hardest.
It's coming along realllly nicely!!

I'm doing a trick, thanks to Rich sony_apm_fan, of sealing the stickers in with clear varnish, to complete the finish and prevent any chance of peeling.

I don't think it'll be completed in a few hours though, Terry! It's tedious, wonderful, time consuming work.

But I'll post pix of the back soon as it's done!

Finally history in the making with the decal lettering.

If this works which I believe confidentally. It will help other members in making that big decision on whether to paint their M-90s.
