Hot!
Today's update:

The metal top trim has arrived courtesy of Bredgeo! Will attach today.

The stickers for the stripes are at the printers.

The stickers for the control panels will be sent off tomorrow to the printers.

A change had to be made to the top left and right and bottom cassette deck key stickers. Turns out their printing machine can't print white on clear.
So, to accomodate this, instead of doing white on clear for the three stickers, I'll do pink text on clear for the stickers in the blue panels and the pink area will have blue text on clear, hoping this will look cool.

The printers said the turn around time is usually 6-10 days, but as this is a small job and they're not busy this time of year they'll probably get done much quicker.

Will post as soon as there are any updates!

DONT give up on your white-on-clear just yet !!!

any pro copy shop with a laser printer can 'print',,,,
or copy your white lettering PHOTO on clear gloss stick back paper-

go get your m90 with the VERY MINT   front-
then shoot the white lettering - use a tripod -
then have the copy shop scale it to actual size-
and copy it for you on their clear stuff

the next set of pix will be the demo :-)

Ohh this sounds very interesting!

The print shop I'm using could do it only as a screen print, not a digital print according to the guy I talked to.
I'm open to any suggestions of how to get them printed white on clear!

I'm doing multiples of each sticker, and variations there of, to see what I like best so I'm not married to any
final design just yet.

Looking forward to seeing the demos Ira!

ok while i am searching for my pictures of this type job -
maybe this will help -

a long time ago -- |-) |-) |-)
ex-trusted-buddy........... " ramon-the-rip" :-D
sold me a discolite with some phoney//fugazi deck door graphics - :annoyed: :annoyed: ;-)
which did not even look 10% close to OEM :dunce:

normally - i wouldnt care -
except that door design looked like a crap mismatch
while the other deck door ( #2) graphics were OEM perfect

so - i ripped the plastic cover off door #1 -
then cut a clear piece of plexi to fit -
then took a 'high-rez' shot of HIS ( mint discolite) correct #1 door graphics-

then had the copy place-
print my photo -- to scale- on their clear //sticky paper-
and slapped in onto my plexi cover

the results were that it looked 100% original-

and it would have made no difference to the LASER copy
machine if the lettering was all white-
or any colors

I might be wrong but I believe white is not a color that is printed on a laser printer. They use CYMK which is Cyan, Yellow, Magenta and Black. Instead, white is reproduced by color-deleting the white area relying instead on white background to shine through.

That's right Norm!

Just contacted another printshop seeing if they can do it.

I'm FAST running out of printshops though, gone through half a dozen already and not many left in my town.

and here comes the 'after' :-D

the point is - that there is no 'screen printing' involved -

True, but there is white ink for printing on different surfaces that are not white like paper. There's also metallic inks and all sorts of option.s I'm really surprised someone can't print white letters on clear stickers.

Oh, there most certainly IS a way to print white ink. It's just not possible, as far as I'm aware of, on laser printers. Alps used to have a solid ink printer that prints solids, metallics, whites, golds, silvers etc. However, I don't think that printer is available anymore.

I guess then silk screening would be the only way to go.

This is part of a thread where we talked about silkscreening an m90 earlier. I think it would be best but again as a previous topic regarding "being resourceful" was mentioned sometimes you have to improvise with what resources you have.

In my opininion now that glue's m90 is in the 80's theme maybe "white" will take away from the theme and aesthetics of this project. The white looked good on the original drab grey but this thing is now "tits" with bright 80's colors.

One good thing with these stickers is if he doesn't like the results or if they don't hold up there's always the future option of removing them with minimal damage to the restoration. Then he could consider silkscreening.

Btw When I silkscreen this m90 project I will save the material so it will be easier and faster to reproduce.

Previous thread regarding M90 restoration...

.....When this upgrade and renovation is complete, in about a month, i'll post a few pics. . After paint we'll silkscreen all of the lettering back in it's original place (with a few customization to that as well, maybe different fonts and a different color-dunno yet)

I don't know if this will be helpful or not,
but here is how I made mine.
1. I designed the stickers on Adobe Illustrator.
2. I printed them up
3.I cut them out and then place them on wax paper
4. I cover them with heavy duty packing tape.
5. with an Exacto blade I carefully cut them out again. this way you can leave a little tape slack on the edge to use to stick them on temporarily for a few days to see if you like the idea.
6.. using spray adhesive i stick them on permanently.
