All tongue in cheek fun! The flaws are what make them charismatic.Superduper said:WoW, tough crowd here. With so much hate, it's a wonder how any boomboxes get traded at all!

I agree. The music brought me to vintage boomboxes, not the boxes themselves. Amongst the boxes I use regularly purely for their ability to really make music sound ‘right’ is my modded RX-DT680 via the line in and my lowly Sanyo M4500K tone box!! That’s right, the playback sound quality of the M4500K via the phono in (with attenuator) is actually really nice to listen to.Rimmer36 said:I think any body that knows me knows what im about to say but my favourite hate is mickey mouse sounding boomboxes lol as the music is just as important if not more than any box so there are no minis or monos in my collection lol and forget tone only boxes lol.... id like a jvc rc550 but i know i just wouldn't use it
The cool factor, memories invoked and the build quality is what keeps me interested. High quality sound is there in select models but only to those who were either collecting years ago or those buying today who have deep pockets.trippy1313 said:This thread makes me wonder why we all like them at all...
That's it, mine are going in the trash tomorrow. No... I'll make a video of them each going in the bonfire, with batteries, playing to the Military TAPS bugle number.
The vz-2000 is like a bag of concrete with a handle and that's not including the 10D batteries it's ridiculousredbenjoe said:i hate the uncomforable weight of the big //great bass boxes --

That is correct! When I said it sounds great some members came back and said they don't sound good! Actually it all depends on the condition of the box.Reli said:Actually the RC550 sounds better than most stereo boxes. Extremely precise mids & treble. I was very surprised.
i for one agree to me the m90 doesn't fit in the 80's or the 70's but that's just me....it's gray for christ sake, it looks like doctor who's dog lol, actually it looks like doctor who's dog (k9) crapped all over it lol x2ZacMac said:I'm gonna get some flack for this, but the old analog vu meters on 1980's boomboxes, I love analog meters on my 70's stereo systems but by the early 80's fluorescent meters were all the rage with audio equipment, I much prefer my Panasonic RXC100 display to that of the M90, not because of the tech itself per say, but because the meter seems a lot more age appropriate to the time period, It's bright, its loud, its electric! It's the 80's! Like digital dashboards and flip up car headlights, digital watches, and the dawning of the age of the personal computer, Just seems to fit.
