The Lanico story has not been told. I would like to know how many different boxes they made and what years. An obvious Rip off of Lasonic, while Lasonic was a Rip Off (at least in name Los Angeles X Panasonic = LaSonic) of the boomboxes of the 80's. But Lasonic went on to come up with a design that was VERY LASONIC (thinking 931/975/i931)
Is there a detailed thread on this box?
Not as of yet, but stay tuned Chris ;-) I think Reli's gonna put something together soon...

Lanico was a brand owned by Yung Fu Technology Electrical Corp, the same Taiwanese company that owned Lasonic.

They probably did it so they could sell the same (almost) boxes to different retailers at different price points, without pissing anyone off.

Just spotted this monster in the ads.
It is in horrible state, blurry pic prevents manufacturer or brand id.
Looks enormous. Not appealing at all, but perhaps it looked nice when it was new.

The picture is super blurry, but the name badge seems to be the Qualimax version like mine

of course SOMEONE had to post a pic of the dashboard boombox. i was beginning to think you guys were asleep. finally, a page ago, someone posted pics of a tacky disco lights boombox so it's not as much a surprise when i post this pic of what i consider the wackiest tackiest boombox ever.
boomboxes_0.jpg

when i saw one in a showroom i couldn't stop laughing at how cheap and toy it looked. apparently, this one goes by MANY names... something like 8 different versions

how could everyone forget the duck rock box?!!
malcolm-mclaren.jpg

it was the inspiration behind the custom paint job i gave my eventually stolen lasonic TRC-935. i see a few others here costomize their boxes too, probably inspired by this record cover as well. surprised no-ones posted any customs here yet

i don't recall seeing any suitcase boomboxes like this either
article-2219661-1590DAF5000005DC-987_634x540.jpg

i don't know if the person who used to make them is still in businesss, but they used to make boxes like this using the absolute cheapest drivers they could buy like that $4 woofer, then turn around and sell the creations for HUNDREDS of dollars.

speaking of suitcase boomboxes, back in the 90s, cambridge audio used to make this well reviewed system

while not technically a boombox, this used to be my DIY ride until i blew the amp
FR50IVUFPBKY8Y3.MEDIUM.jpg

i'm back to planning a new and improved trailer system likely to use 4x8" sealed woofers, a pair of titanium tweeters @ 93dB with possibly a 97dB 12" wedge box under the trailer with 40 or 100wpc class D amps and 100w for the sub. NO boombox would be able to compete with that.

THIS was the boombox that seems to get blocked every time i try to post it. it's SOMETIMES called the lady gaga/madonna boombox

this is an interesting version of a "disco lights boombox"

portable mono karaoke/PAs like this are popular here with the latin community

ARRGH! i guess this forum just blocks all versions of the craziest boombox ever that i just remembered last night. you'll have to look it up yourself, it's called Body Speakers by Bob Turek, or as i call it, the "boob box"

though it's probably considered "mainstream" now, especially after all of the clones it inspired, but JVC's kaboom box was groundbreaking for it's time and totally unlike typical squarish boxes

i never thought to try and upload as you can't at most forums. when i first saw the boob box here, i wondered how the heck you managed it because i tried about 8 sources that were all share blocked. thanks for simplifying things. i hate having to post links to pics.

that would be my vote for the absolute most insane boombox ever. try as one might, you just can't look away

while i'm here, apologies to any fans of the lady gaga/madonna (disco lights) boombox. my comments were never intended to be taken personally. people here seem mostly laid back and cool. when i intend to offend, there's NEVER room for doubt, and i've only used the thermonuclear comeback once in about 20 years.

just stumbled on this looking for DIY boomboxes... it not only has a video screen, but apparently uses TUBE AMPS! i doubt it's portable, but i looks interesting

WOW! check out the handle on that thing!

speaking of DIY boomboxes, in line for pink floyd tickets in the 80s, someone brought a hand truck 12v system with a 12" sub that was almost as loud as a modern car system

pyle's take on the kaboom box, called the street blaster
boombox.jpg

it looks like a jet engine to me

index.jpg

I'd bought something like that maybe a decade ago because it looked like the box I'd been wanting to get. It didn't work and it was missing button so I don't have it anymore.

At any rate I've since obtained the box I really wanted...

I wonder if Sanyo was the OEM for that...
