of course SOMEONE had to post a pic of the dashboard boombox. i was beginning to think you guys were asleep. finally, a page ago, someone posted pics of a tacky disco lights boombox so it's not as much a surprise when i post this pic of what i consider the wackiest tackiest boombox ever.
when i saw one in a showroom i couldn't stop laughing at how cheap and toy it looked. apparently, this one goes by MANY names... something like 8 different versions
how could everyone forget the duck rock box?!!
it was the inspiration behind the custom paint job i gave my eventually stolen lasonic TRC-935. i see a few others here costomize their boxes too, probably inspired by this record cover as well. surprised no-ones posted any customs here yet
i don't recall seeing any suitcase boomboxes like this either
i don't know if the person who used to make them is still in businesss, but they used to make boxes like this using the absolute cheapest drivers they could buy like that $4 woofer, then turn around and sell the creations for HUNDREDS of dollars.
speaking of suitcase boomboxes, back in the 90s, cambridge audio used to make this well reviewed system
while not technically a boombox, this used to be my DIY ride until i blew the amp
i'm back to planning a new and improved trailer system likely to use 4x8" sealed woofers, a pair of titanium tweeters @ 93dB with possibly a 97dB 12" wedge box under the trailer with 40 or 100wpc class D amps and 100w for the sub. NO boombox would be able to compete with that.
