Has the hiss been eliminated when in BT mode? The firmware update was little to no help at all on he original.
Hi Brutus442.

Didn't want to hijack your post to Reli as I do not have the slick Rick edition however, I can tell you that my newer mini is way quieter in the hiss from my kickstarter model

I can do a video for you showing each one and the difference

Thank you so much Transitorized, that video was perfect and exactly what I was looking for, a comparison between both models background hiss.

I know many supporters laughed it off as sounding like a real cassette hiss reminiscent of the 80's boomboxes without Dolby, but it irked me that this snuck through NWT's normally good quality control measures.

Well my order is in and I'm just waiting for my tracking number. I wouldn't have pulled the trigger on this without info like this so thanks for the detailed review!

Well my new NWT M90 arrived and I must say I'm impressed. The have solved the sound issues (primarily the hiss sound at low volume and the drop out of sound at low levels) and the volume seems much more "natural" from 0 - 10.

The am feature is a new bonus but not one that I really would miss but it was advertised in the initial KS launch.

Would I buy another NWT boombox when they produce another model? Yes if they put quality first like they do with the arcade cabinets. Finally thanks to Transistorized for hisIMG_8687.jpg review. I'd remained skeptical of their products and follow up support after the KS M90 release but this has changed my mind.

I'm surprised ppl buy another device for such - to me - small improvements. Maybe NWT should always release an imperfect version first to increase their sales ;-) But of course it is also great NWT is working on their products and that guys like you appreciate it a lot. I'd only buy again if there was an "M90 Midi". :-D

Hey, but my wife was always mocking on the violet Slick Rick edition to be ugly. Now this weekend I could finally use it the way I planned to: On a hot summer night on the balcony with a violet rhythm flashlight added. Suddenly she admitted it even looks quite good like that. More than 20 years now and we can still surprise each other.

I bought this updated model because it is what the KS version was to be. The old KS model gets a new home at our cottage in the north so it was gong to happen either way. Nothing like music down at the dock or by the campfire.
The other benefit is that two MIni M90's can be connected and synced together to form stereo boxes and it sounds incredible! I just experimented with this feature today. Here's a link to set it up for those that have multiples

If you think about it every product released has small improvements over the last model (see cell phones for example) and yet people flock like sheep to the latest models in an almost a yearly migration. That to me is insane but it's their money, why not.

Hell even our hobby is full of collections containing boomboxes from various manufacturers that have tiny improvements over each other. ( I have a Pioneer SK series boxes and the differences in those are not significant, but I still enjoy their character....especially on hot summer nights!

I completely forgot about pairing them for stereo. It works awesome.

Thanks for that :-)

Just ordered one due to this thread! Thanks all! For those who have the newer one with AM, what's your opinion on the reception? I listen to mostly Sports radio on AM, and wondered if the stronger stations come in clearly enough to listen to for the day?
Special Thanks to Transistorized for your videos! I watched/listened to the one where you put Am on (and I believe you tuned on the Score AM670 here in Chicagoland, which I listen to daily). The broadcast did sound a bit staticky, but was that maybe because the radio wasn't positioned correctly?
Thanks All

Reception is really bad on mine. I can pick up only 1 station on AM and 3 stations on FM. This is common with nearly all modern speakers.

Thanks for your reply...I will update when I get mine, and give an opinion...I'm hoping I get better reception since I live in the Chicagoland area with a lot of "Flame thrower" broadcast stations.

I received the M90 Mini and I'm actually blown away on how it sounds! The Sound is amazing for its size. The bass and treble controls actually work well.
The AM radio (what I mostly listen to - Sportsradio - when listening to a radio) locks in all my local stations very well. The FM band is where it fails, at least on my copy. I'm in the Chicagoland suburbs and we have numerous FM stations here. On the M90 Mini I can only receive about 3 or 4 stations, on FM, and those are either religious or foreign speaking stations that I don't listen to.
Is this normal for this radio? All my other radios (over 2 dozen) pick up our local FM radio stations.
This is not a deal breaker for me on the M90 mini since the AM works well, and the Bluetooth connection is solid (not staticky/hissy at all as reported by others in the earlier models), and the sound is Amazing! Streaming music on Bluetooth makes this worth it alone, but wondering if the FM is flawed in my copy.

Well, doesn't the company's name say it all? New Wave TOYS? It's for kids... big kids... with money. :-D It's still a lot cheaper than getting a good and functioning original which then doesn't even have bluetooth. ;)

...but wondering if the FM is flawed in my copy.

On my side it got at least better when I found out that I should put both antennas in direction of the best reception. First I just pulled them out to the left and to the right as seen on many photos. Reception was very weak here, too, then. When pointing to the same direction both antennas together gave at least an acceptable result but, yes, it could still be better after all. FM radio is not the best on this device.

In fairness Reno the same could be said for our 30+ year analogue dinosaur boomboxes, they're still asking stupid prices and people are buying them. At least the NWT M90 has Bluetooth, plays from a host of storage media and has an UNREAL battery in it that lasts forever and still charges my phone while playing.

If I wasn't spending my money on these things, I'd probably be spending it on my wife so I think think it's money well spent (insert the devil emoji here) lol
