These tapes really showcases our eclectic tastes in music. I can't wait to hear them!
I'm currently recording them to studio quality FLAC and MP3.
Recording is being done through a TASCAM mastering rackmount to a Lexicon Omega studio I/O into Ableton Live 8.2.
I'll upload to my server when I finish. I will bite the bullet and not do any mastering to the audio so that we can all hear the full/real sound of each of our boxes and source recordings.
Looks like a victory for Team JVC!
Thanks for the added effort, Joel!!!!
That saves me the time and effort of digitizing and uploading. I'll do the same for the Maxell tapes when they eventually arrive.
For any of you diehard analog junkies out there that ONLY want analog dupes, The offer still stands for me to make tape to tape copies. (Which will be done via high end Nakamichi tape decks). 1st generation tape to tape copies from my setup sound very true to the original. All I ask is that you reimburse me whatever shipping expense I incur. I will either dig through some of my "gently used" tapes and send you a pair of those, or if you want me to use brand spankin' new Sony HF's, I can get those from K-mart for $1 per tape. I will tell you that I recently conducted a very extensive test of the Maxell UR vs. TDK D vs. Fuji DR-1 vs. Sony HF and the Sony HF was (by far) the best sounding tape of the bunch and had the lowest background hiss levels. They sound surprisingly good when recorded on with my Naks!
That said, I would encourage you to consider the much faster and cheaper FLAC downloads burned to an audio CD, then recorded on your best deck. That should give you very good results as well. (Although it does kind of depend on the quality of Joel's playback deck, sound card and D/A converter.... but I have a strong feeling he has good stuff and knows how to use it
)
Looking forward to getting the tapes back and evaluating what boomers did the best job making recordings, and hearing the tracks we all picked!
