Goodman's Boomboxes Collection

Hi Goodman, I see you also have a lot of different marks in boomboxes! Can you help me with something? I have here a SANYO 9818-2K with I think US plug.
I'm afraid this radio will only work on 110V? When I change the plug for Euro plug, I also should change the voltage inside the radio? On the outside I see no changable switch, it might be inside? I know Europea radio's often have these options to change voltage, but I'm not sure about this one? (I might have to open this radio?)
I'm sorry it is the Sanyo M 9819-2K

This summer I was visiting my uncle.
He kept all sorts of things in his garage and I helped him clean up.
There I found an old car radio and a pair of wooden speakers from some system.
The car radio works well, the speakers also have good sound, although they have remarks on the appearance.
I also found a power supply unit 14 volts, 2 amps.
After a few hours of work, we made this custom boombox:
auto reverse cassette, fm radio, 3.5 mm aux input, 2x 15 watts, 20 cm speakers.
The boombox works very well and is suitable for sounding a backyard, garage or workshop.
This is not in my collection, but I decided to show it to you:

When I presented my Sharp in 2017, I only posted pictures: Sharp GF 777 Z
Today I will present you a short video - demo of radio, tape, line in.
For the first time you will see little upgrade -
I have added LED level meter and LED lighting on the radio scale and VU meter
These features can be switched ON/OFF independently:

I'm generally not a fan of some boombox mods but this is very nice. Subtle and retains the 80's vibe to the box

Adding leds on at the SHARP GF-777 i guess is not an easy task. Looks nice.

It was a very complex job that I completed a few years ago, and I'm not sure I'm keeping photos of the process.

I'm generally not a fan of some boombox mods but this is very nice.

Thanks for the positive comment.
I thought for a long time before I made this modification.
I am very pleased with the end result.
When the lights are off, you can't see any difference from the original look of the Sharp.
I made smaller labels at the bottom of the grills, that don't hide the speakers:

Real genius idea to have the smaller labels. Looks far better than with the original full size labels, blocking the speakers.

This summer I managed to add a variety of things to my collection.
Now I will show you some of them.

Boombox Panasonic RX-FM25L

radio: FM, MW, LW, SW

cassette: full auto-stop
Deck for recording and playback

LED indicator for FM stereo
volume and tone control
2-way, 4-speakers system

I completely disassembled it and washed the case.
I did a full cleaning on all boards and elements.
I replaced the cassette mechanism with a new one.
I added an aux input 3.5 mm to connect some music players.
I decide to insert LED into cassette door, and blue LED strip into speakers.

Hello Goodman, I notice that you have what looks like a euro version of the C30. The frequency bands and AC voltage are different from the US version that I have. I notice in the picture that you have a US version of the service manual. Can you tell me where to find one of those? I have been able to download a UK/Europe version of the manual, but would like to have the US version. Any chance you have scanned it and have a pdf file of it? I need to do some troubleshooting that is probably output amp (would probably be the same) but might need to see the US version of the tuner and power supply. I like your mods. I added a 12V DC power receptacle to mine years ago so I could power it in a car or boat.
Thanks, Thatchh

Hello.
I bought the USA service manual from eBay 4-5 years ago, but I haven't scanned it because I don't have a scanner or printer.
For such services I use a copy center, and I pay for each A4 sheet.
These days I will look for it and can only scan a few pages. When I'm done I'll post them here on the forum.
On EBAY for sale only the main module for $14 and you can buy it for donor and spare parts: SANYO C30
I wish you all the best.

In a world of Sanyos (how not to love them? :-)) a cozy mini Panasonic is a touch of class. With your new entries and the signature mod, your collection is getting more and more original and unique.
