I couldn't tell if that was painted or a pristine original. It looks fantastic!

Some people have asked me, "Why do all this work?"

For me, the answer comes when someone makes the comment that that can't believe how old the radio is. When it looks so new and so fresh that they can't believe it's 30 years old! They honestly thought for a moment that they could go to an electronics store and buy one today!

You've summed it up pretty much perfectly Chris. I had my Sanyo M9998K at a family & friends get together (80 people) and had people come up and say things like:
'where did you buy that huge radio'
'I thought it was new until I saw the tape deck, they don't use them anymore right?'
'why doesn't it have a dock?'
One guy I didn't know said 'I had one of those!'. He couldn't remember where it ended up though :-)

People love them especially when they hear how great they sound.

James.... :-)

You gotta love when everyone says ( I had one one those ) I show some of the guys a box of mine here and there and someone always says it. I call bullsheet! I must say, I was pretty excited to see the black back cover. I got goose bumps thinking of when it will be done and in my back yard for the new house projects and upkeep :-D

Particularly when they say things like that it cost almost $100 when new :-)

It's a pity you can't get the front face plate remade from clear polycarbonate and get the labels reprinted on.
Seems a shame that the mid section of the colour gradient is going to be covered by a silver plate.

Scotty

Yeah I would just leave off the faceplate. You already know what each control is, there's no need for it.

Some people may find it unnecessary to paint the inside of the box, but it's just the way I like to do things..

I've been custom painting cars and doing graffiti art for the past 7 years now, so I've had quite a bit of practice mastering the technique.. Fades are one of my favorite tricks to do, just a lot of gun control and can control!
That's why I asked in your painting Boomboxes thread which look were you trying to achieve, because there is more than one way to skin a cat..

Hoping to be lucky and have it home by 11/6. This way it can keep me company while I work on the 3.27 acre lot. Yard is over 7 ft high in some spots. And the tunes will help me get through it
