Wow. Never saw this. Amazing job. Given me a change of heart about these in fact. I feel in the daylight they have A LOT going on... But when those lights start to dance, the thing is definitely a looker. A thing of beauty.

Great job on the resto! Very impressive.
Thanks Trippy, There is allot of truth behind what members feel when it comes to this box. But I still think the pluses out weigh the minuses. And in the end, I think this box ROCKS!

I agree, the pros outweigh the cons 4to1. Granted i would still have a cap on what to pay for one but i say it is worth to me what the big lasonics sell for.

Yea I've noticed that. In all honesty when I first saw these I thought they look like they might be cool, but hearing some of the negatives kind of put it completely out of my mind. But between this and Joes thread on the one he just got, I have a change of heart. I dont think I'll ever find one for $50. But if I found one at an irresistible price... Might just find one on my shelf. :)

I was 100% the same way. They did nothing for me. But it took 2 minutes to realize, it's not just about me. Other people love this thing too. The light show is so cool, nothing compares.

Members have be posting some amazing finds lately so keep your fingers crossed.

Excellent job! Getting any parts for these is near impossible , been looking for a deck 1 door for my discolite for a few years -good to see that lady luck has smiled on you ! Very nice outcome and photo finish. Congratulations!

The lights on mine have been very active from day one, to control the sensitivity you may want to contact superduper or cpl chronic they may have an idea to add in a pot somehow- when the woofer brown wire was off and the lights seemed more sensitive to volume you may be on to something- a Vela DK-7000 i bought from Redbenjoe has the most hyper sensitive lights i ever saw- but it does fit the radio - my Technidyne TD-7000 same as the Vela , lights respond slower for no reason..either way , I have 5 , the GIANT HK-900 and Technidyne TD=7000 both from LLopez, the Breakdancer BD-8000 from ebay , Vela DK-7000 from Redbenjoe, and a Eversonic S-606 - looks like cat`s eyes in the dark...

Love the lites as well , more the better :)

Chris, what do you think about dumping those piezo tweeters for a real pair of tweets? I think it needs to be done.

I haven't done it yet, But I plan too. I need to find a good, small, cheap tweeter that I can use as a regular tweeter replacement for may radio's that I have that need this up grade and then buy 10 or 12 of them if they are the right price.

I haven't really looked as I have so many projects going on

It will be tough to find a regular cone tweeter this small and figure out how to mount it too. Ill keep an eye out for something a well.

Piezo tweeters aren't the end of the world and can be made to sound very acceptable with the right resistor value in their crossovers. [Piezos] are capacitative in their own right, but a low value resistor, as used by Panasonic/Technics in the piezos found in the linear phase speakers used in three piece boxes such as the SA-C05, makes all the difference. Without it, the tweeters can sound too bright depending on how well they're chosen for the task, with it (from the factory) the likes of that Technics sounds pretty darned good.
Maybe add a 22Ω - 47Ω wirewound resistor and see whether that makes the overall sound more acceptable before ditching the piezos entirely.

I agree, it's gonna be tough to find a small replacement....

Something else I never new.

Sure would be an easier ad cheaper fix!

hi, i just subscribe here whene i discover this topic. i'm mid-old and i got this "boombox" but in the name of Frontech.
Frontech-DK990-discolite.jpg

it is at parents'home. NExt month i'll go visit to them to take photoshoot!
in my childhood, i only use this double-tape-recorder to copy amastrad video game (cpc 464 on tape).

i'm not a fan of loud music, so the entire device is running very well (lights, sound, radio).
it is very big and "spacy", soon i will decide to sell it. as it is very big, i hope shipping cost will be not expensive. i'm in France, and i do not hope to sell it in another country ! too expensive shipment taxe ! if french people here me, you can contact me if you are interinsted in this device.

ah, it reminds me all the nights i spent to copy so many games on tapes, using the spped-accelerated-mode ! this boombox make me save a lot of money in my child, because video games were already expensive ! what a bunch of "souvenirs" you reminds me here guys !

have a good day ! hope i'll be back soon with photos and impressions.
