So you have excessive clipping on Bluetooth mode and a non-functional FM tuner?!

There seems to be many, many happy Boombox buyers out there - maybe your unit is faulty Joe??
I'm pissed about the FM because I bought the Bumpboxx over the Aiwa EXOS9 because the Aiwa doesn't have a FM tuner.

I emailed Bumpboxx to get these issues figured out and they only told me to move the antenna wire and scan the radio stations outside..... and if that doesn't work then I should use a FM app on my phone. :bang: That doesn't make sense because not only does it not pickup any stations outside, but even if it did, it is winter here. I need to listen to the radio INSIDE, not outside when it is 30* and blowing 30mph winds.

This might sound crazy but I do not have internet access when on the road and camping to use a FM tuner app and I don't keep apps on my phone. If I did install the app, I will be tethered to my bumpboxx because I won't be able to leave with my phone and also leave the radio where it is with my family and friends to continue playing.

I showed them the videos and pictures and they said looping the antenna above the handle brings the best reception.

I don't want to bash this company because they have been REALLY helpful and super fast to reply and help. They seem to be an A+ company but some quality control needs to be done.

I will layout all the things I have issues with right out of the box:
- FM tuner doesn't work
- Right tweeter clips at 60-75% volume on BT
- Glue residue on the front of the box and behind the plexiglass and on the VU meters
- 2 plexiglass screw holes cracked
- Front plastic box corner cracked
- A lot of staples didn't hit their supports inside the box to keep this thing together and not vibrate apart

They did send me a new VU meter and plexiglass panel immediately, like 2 days it was here. AND when I just noticed the plexi/glue issue they did offer to exchange the radio and maybe at this point I should have but if they all have this FM issue, a replacement won't do me any good.

I love love love this radio even with the issues I mentioned, it is a rad throwback and really does produce the power and looks that they advertise.

Glad they sent those replacement parts. Rob and Dave are very hands on and handle complaints very quickly. I love both of my Bumpboxxes. 2 linked are insanely loud. had them outside on the driveway and could hear it for blocks and blocks...poor neighbors.

I've had lunch with them, they love their product and are always looking to improve it. Considering the Bumpboxx was the first piece of electronic equipment they ever made it has been very trouble free for me. As a new startup they have been very successful bringing a new boombox to the masses with proper bass and power. They have lots of new boombox designs that are coming. I am very excited for what they have coming in the near future.

It's great that the makers are willing to send out replacement parts. It is concerning though that they have no real solution for the FM tuner issue - it seems they are well aware of the tuners' shortcomings.

Incidently, a similar (but not the same) looking $10 FM tuner/SD card/ BT2.1 interface unit with remote can be found on EBay as a separate module. I bought one a while back to install into my DIY boxes but couldn't get good reception from the FM tuner so I gave up on that idea. I was a little concerned when I saw a similar module used in the Bumpboxx. To discover that the Bumpboxx has the same reception issues is thus not surprising.

For me having FM is more of a novelty than a must. I do love the tuner on my DJ Tech though. Hopefully on future models this can be addressed.

Wow, customer expectations sure have changed. Imagine a Japanese made box from the late 70s having non- existent FM reception like that??? They would have been recalled.

Q: 'The FM tuner in my Bumpboxx doesn't work. What's the solution?

All I ask is that I get what I paid for. If they know FM is basically inop (and there is no AM band as advertised), they shouldn't even put FM on the specs.

Like I said, one reason I picked the bumpboxx over the Aiwa EXOS 9 was because the bumpboxx has integrated FM tuner.

I agree that their solution should not be to tell me to get a FM radio app.

I'm going to ad a telescopic antenna and hope I get maybe the top 5 stations around here. If that doesn't work, then I will have to buy some kind of USB FM receiver.

This does not reflect on Rob and Dave, I believe they are great guys and I do appreciate this radio. I think with the right R&D up front there is no reason the bumpboxx FM tuner shouldn't work as well as the DJ Tech's.

I've tried FM radio apps on my phone, and they never sounded as good as using a real FM radio. Could be a problem with the phone, dunno.

To be honest i think this is a key staement here:

"All I ask is that I get what I paid for."

If the FM radio is non functional then Joe is being exceedingly reasonable about this. Where else in life could you sell a product that does not function as advertised and then have purchasers defend it with:

"This does not reflect on Rob and Dave, I believe they are great guys and I do appreciate this radio"

The fact that we are all invested in this hobby and have a passion for it means we will always be more forgiving than a typical high street buyer but I'm sorry answering with "get an fm app for your phone" is not acceptable. The love we have for the Bumpboxx as a product and a company should not stand in the way of customer satisfaction. Rob and Dave do seem like cool guys so i hope they support you in your efforts Joe

^ we will keep in touch about a solution for the FM. Until then, I will rock with what I have. You are very quick to reply and at least had me try a few things to get the FM working.

I want you to know that these posts weren't to call out the company in a bad way, I was hoping for maybe some suggestions from members and some tips to share that I might have tried.
