I BIN'd a farely rare and desireable boombox at the end of February, one of the few boxes I truly would like because of how it represents the 80's. All was good since the seller put in the listing they would double box the boombox, I knew it wasn't perfect but felt secure in that it would arrive in fairly good shape. Well a few days ago as I was walking up to the porch after work I saw this 6 inch wide flat box sitting by the door. I can't hardly describe how my heart just thudded to the ground, so I picked it up and went inside. I sat the box down and walked away from it for several hours because I was so distraught over the packaging. I finally opened it about 8 pm (see pic) and found that it was intact but it had some damage in numerous places. I put it back for a few days to cool off then I contacted the seller with very courteous emails.

What followed were denials, accusations and the typical sob story by the seller as well as a supposed email from the seller to an attorney alleging internet fraud.

I've filed with eBay to get a refund since the seller obviously doesn't want to work it out and she's flipped out.

Can you guess what boombox this is or at least used to be:

 :surf:

Of that I'm pretty confident Ira but just sorry that another of the cool boxes has been removed from us.

Can you tell what box it is? Nobody has made a guess yet.

Thanks Tim, I really was willing to work with the seller until she went psycho.

I feel for you Don. You'll get your money back. The only problem is that you might have to pay return shipping -- ebay's policy.

what is really annoying is the fact that some how people who have no freaking interest in this hobby end up profiting from it.
its not so much that as they are so bloody cheap they cannot even put the effort into properly packing something.
this box the way it was shipped is just a example of someone who had a extremely low level intelligence .
this coupled with complete lack of concern for the person they are making money off of.
people are so bloody lame sometimes. not all of them but a huge ammount of people just could not care less about what they are selling how they are shipping it too.
its a lack of respect really i mean a lack of respect ethics and just really really pathetic.
i am sure this is the same kind of person who would rake a store clerk over the coals over some minor error .
i just dont get it i mean has society really fallen to a point so low where people just take the course of least effort to pocket a extra dollar or two in packaging materials.
obviously they got the box for free more than likely the boombox was next to nothing too.
the best part is the excuse making oh well bubble wrap wouldnt have helped anyways.

would it have freaking hurt lady.
man the best part is the threatened legal action and lawyer crap.
this person wins the coveted smoking raisin awards because thats what she has for a freaking brain.

please if you cant package something or if you just dont care enough stop selling things on ebay.

Norm I didn't like the thought of the return shipping cost but once the seller flipped out it I didn't mind so much anymore.

Right on bill, once I received the email about the legal action I stopped communicating and went right to filing with ebay. She should have never shipped this box, it was guaranteed to be damaged but now I can't tell what was caused by shipping and what was wrong before shipping. Maybe she shipped it to me this way knowing it had issues thinking I would file a claim with UPS and recover my money. I told her I wasn't going to file with UPS because they will deny any claim solely based on how it was packed and I use the term packed very loosely.

Yeah. Ship it back exactly the same. Hopefully, it'll be nothing more than bits/pieces when she gets it back. I hate unapologetic sellers that always play the blame game when something goes wrong -- blame the victim -- old game. All you did was pay good money and open up a carton to find a damaged boombox. MUST be buyer's fault, but What'd you do wrong?

BTW, the top looks almost like a Sanyo M-X720 but I just looked and I guess it's not. Then I though Rising 20/20 but that's not it either.

BTW#2. You don't have to file nothing. She can file if she wants to -- her perogative and I've said it before -- shipping insurance protects the seller, not the buyer.

We have a winner, great guess Gordie. Yes it's a bolt box which makes it hurt more to have to send it back.
Here's a pic of ol Baby Boomers Bolt Boxes, mine is one of the side boxes not the one in the center with the alarm.

Absolutely Norm, I'm not going to waste my time I didn't do anything wrong. The only problem is I have to waste my time sending it back.

If by chance you end up keeping it, and part it out to recuperate $$$ i would LOVE to buy the 2 front speaker grills and 1 antenna...i would make it worth your while $$$...i would maybe even buy other spare parts also ;-)

-gsbadbmr

Gordie the box is salvageable and could be saved, if the seller had offered to refund some of the cost I would have considered keeping it. Instead she flipped out so I have no choice but to send it back if and when eBay gives me the green light. If circumnstances work out for parts I will keep you in mind.

Good info about the shipping insurance, Norm. I was wondering about that for awhile now 'cause when one of my 931's arrived in bad shape, I told the chick who sold it to me to partially refund my money ('cause it still works and looks great on the outside but has some internal damage that probably can't be fixed 100%.). She wound up filing an insurance claim with UPS, who came by to inspect the damage. I wasn't home and because of Philly getting hit hard with snow, they never came back. Anyway, I was wondering what does UPS have to do with me getting some of my money back for her bad packaging. I mean, when she got them to confirm the damage and got some money, was she gonna give me my cut? :dunce:
_______________________________________________________________

MasterBlaster, that sounds like the same situation I was in, but this chick I dealt with didn't flip her wig. Still, it made me cautious when I showed her pictures of the damage on my Photobucket account and she said something along the lines of, "that doesn't look like the box I sent you". When I told her that the camera flash exposes all surface scratches, she backed down and never brought it up again, but I was wondering where she was going with that statement. :hmmm:

Hope everything works out good for you!

I say let's try and save it then instead of putting it hrough more shipping abuse  We can wait for the next bolt box to pop up and we'll buy it together to make yours and mine perfect

Tell me something, was the boombox shipped exactly like in the pic you posted...just thrown in a cardboard box?

-gsbadbmr

What you see in the pic is as it was before I pulled it out of the box, I pulled out two pieces of styrofoam and some butcher paper that was on top.

I paid to much for a trashed box, there's no way I can keep it now especially after this freak flipped out. :nonono:

there is still decent sellers on ebay i am sure but opportunistic scammers about.
i mean the chance of any kind of punishment for shipping broken goods and charging good money for them is slim to none.
i suppose its less scummy than selling crack but its still pretty freaking scumalicious .
