I heard Your M90 reno and like i told you, i think they look a bit bland but i had to give full respect to the sound, bass was nice and treble was pure.. i had a GF777, GF999, they are really nice looking but they shlt out when you turn them up, The conion is a Cool box.. but i haven`t heard a fully working one.. there are some nice looking boxes out there but not all sound that brilliant, i had the Lasonic 931, it was the round corner version, the bass was nice but there wasn`t enough treble, i hear the older ones are way better, i have the Lasonic 975, that has too much bass for me, its like the amp is too powerful for the woofers, and again, for my taste it needs more treble.. beautiful looking box though.. of all the huge empty plastic fantastic boxes out there, the best for me is the super jumbo J1

IMHO, the big 3 piercers like the RX-DT680, Yamaha PC-8 JVC PC-5 etc sound a lot ‘nicer’ than a C100 or GF-777 if sound quality is your thing.

The M90 really is a great sounding box with a nice balance of lows and highs but don’t expect bass reflex type deep bass from a 1 piecer.

It sounds like you’re after the classic one piece ‘look’ so I’d vote for the M90 (it’s not my money)

Of those 4 boxes you listed:

Conion = Best volume and bass (they go for $400-800)
Lasonic = Cheapest, and worst build quality (they go for ($250-500)
M90 = Best-quality sound, but most expensive (they go for $800 - 2,000)
GF-777 = Best looking IMO, but worst-sounding of the 4. They go for $500-800....but if you're going that route, spend a little extra and get a GF-999 or GF-1000, they look even better.

Those are all Ebay prices by the way.....(i.e. the most expensive route)

I know some of the 3 piece units sound better than the one piece, but I just don't like that option Norm and Jimmy, but good points, thank you.

Reli, Thanks for those rough numbers, That really helps out a relative boom box "newbie" like myself.

The GF999 and GF1000 sound great for options.

Not too crazy about e-bay with something like this though.

Based on what has been listed, if money is no option than M90 for sure all day long.
The one below I got for a decent price but it needed repairs. Now its 100%.

If you want a loud decent sounding box without spending the money for the above then you can't go wrong with the iconic Conion C100s.
My outside shot filling the neighborhood with tunes during the summer months :-)

To be honest, sometimes I think the Conion competes in sound depending on what I am listening to but the overall build quality of the internals is not in the same league as the M90. The tuner is also better on the M90.

One more thing to take in consideration. These things will eventually need service no matter how minty they are. In my neck of the woods it has been WAAAY easier and cheaper finding parts for the C100's. The M90's are few and far in between when parts are needed so I tend to not work my M90 to death.

If you really want to go for the Gusto get a good G f-777 and replace the speakers with modern ones this combination will absolutely f****** destroy any of the other boxes.

The GF 777 is a very powerful Boombox with shity speakers.

All of this talk is largely irrelevant anyway as the performance of any particular M90 or GF-777 is dependant on so many variables.

In other words, one guys M90 can sound very different to another guys M90. I’ve heard some GF-777’s sound like distorting heaps but one particular one I heard was an overachieving powerhouse.

You’re not buying a brand new item, these boomboxes are way, way past their use by dates so don’t get too hung up on which model was ‘best’ when new way back in 1980!! :-)

The 850 and 980 sound great, but a simple M70 would beat them in overall volume.

Never heard a 970, but supposedly that's the best Crown.

it sounds about the same as a 980 Reli but yea it's the best crown imho because it has a handle if nothing else...and it takes 10 d's verses the 980's 9 d's

the m70 is louder and cleaner sounding but id rather the 970 any day lad, im lucky i have all 3

I'll throw in a wildcard: the Panasonic RX 6400. It's loud and loud and very very loud! With Hardman (Mauricio's) speaker bracket customization it's even portable as a single unit. Of course at 44lbs without batteries "portable" is a very loose term.

The one I have for sale has upgraded woofers, sounds great!

For stupid serious bass go with the Toshiba WX-1!! 3-piece though.
