That won't make much difference as it is just a mid (depending on crossover point however) and the voice coils look like they may be the same size. Same material would be nice for a match, but I wouldn't sweat it ( the size difference that is ).
The mounting holes do line up on the box. Not too worried about it either. There is a 1/8" space around the frame of the new speaker when mounted in the box. It will probably flutter or make a buzzing noise if the mid range gets thumping. I'll add something if needed.
Oh my my my, these are starting to shine! Luckily the crossover system is working and the sound is great! A few things to finish up, here is the final look without swapping gold dust caps.
The left woofer is out of phase (moving in instead of out). I switched the +/- wires, no change. Hooked it up to different channel, no change. Took out every speaker and swapped the +/- wires one at a time and tested again each speaker, no change. Put the horn tweeter back in, no change.
That's some big-ass horn. But do those speakers really need 3 tweeters? What are the crossover points for each of them? Does each actually have a different crossover point?
joe have you tried just connecting the woofers only on both speakers . , once you have the polarity correct on the woofers then connect the other speakers one at a time checking the phase after each connection.
With all these projects you take on I'm starting to think you don't even have a job. I mean who has time for all this!? Are you a drug dealer? A pimp? Something just doesn't add up.
You should see the other **** I have going on right now too. Rebuilding a boat and motor, camping, flipping cars, kitchen/bath remodel, kids, boomboxes, ahhhhhhhh !
