I'm not surprised since the cabinets are almost identical in appearance to a 777 & probably 95% the same in construction, shape, size, etc. I'll even go so far as to say that I suspect the speakers may be identical too except the speakers had diferent colored translucent dustcaps & holes drilled into the magnet to fit the light bulbs, right? Maybe a special woofer run from the same manufacturer of the Sharp woofers? Just a wild guess......
I've always said from the beginning, the 777, stock or modded, sounds good when cranked & standing at least 4 feet back from the speakers. That cabinet was designed to fill a room or deck, etc. with sound, not sling it on your shoulder or walking around the park. So, to me it's no surprise it sounds best, baauuulls OUT loud, sitting on the pavement & preferably 2 feet in front of a wall for best results. Then it BANGS like a pron star....
That's what they're made for, not easy listening or light mood music....fo SHO!!! It always reminds me of a PRO-sound DUB-stack with a Yamaha 'Natural Sound' receiver morphed onto the top & mated to a heavy duty DJ Double mixing deck of sorts....
I love horns & the transient response is cleaner too, as a direct result of their higher acoustic efficiency....
BOO_YEAH!!
