Wow that corner is looking great with the paint on it!
In the sun..? I remember the sun, hope to see it again someday..
Thanks JC, I am actually happy with the color. It's a bit more "Chrome" than silver, but not to far off the original.

Man I just saw this post Chris and might I say you are doing an excellent job. I guarantee if you showed the after repairs without ever revealing the break no one would even see it was ever repaired. Can't wait for ending results bro  Bad Boy Bill
Thanks Bill, I'm happier than I thought I would be. The handle is completely functional. Mechanically the repair is a success! And you know what, I'm happy with the body and paint as well. It's not a mirror image, and GAWD HELP the B@5t@rd that say's "Hey Man, that doesn't Match!" :annoyed:

Well.....I think this explains what's next!

Good thing my hourly wage is $0.00 otherwise this would have been a very expensive box! ;-)

Fully fixed, Painted, Re-Assembled and fully functional!

I'll get some shots in the sun tomorrow!

Hopefully you can hit up a custom glass shop & have a lexan piece cut to ssize....I have a glass company around the corner that sells & custom cuts clear lexan to size....A bit expensive but cheaper than buying another tuning windw & shipping it.....& it's brand new.

Just an idea.

Looks freakin awesome, fantastic repair! There's just something so satisfying about taking a box that would likely have been scrapped by many and getting it looking pretty damned fine again...I'm really attached to the boxes I've spent sooo many hours saving

Looks excellent.

I really can't afford to buy a nice perfect box, so I pick up borderline basket cases. People (non-members) often say things to me like, "Hey, if I came up with a box like that, could you do something like that for me?"
They usually don't like my answer. They don't realize the blood, sweat, and tears that goes into this sport.
If it was simple and cheap, wouldn't everyone do it?

Great work - and in great time, too! :hooray:

Thank you guys! I am extremely happy with the way it turned out and more so of the quality of this box. It's probably the best mid-sized radio I own!

Some better pictures with a real camera...

Yeah, I don;t think I could do this much work just to give it away!. I have made a few battery covers for members, there is allot of work that goes into that as well, but it's not on this level for sure.

 Wow! That's one amazing transformation. Imagine what that would look like with a bit of darkened perspex instead of clear stuff as it has now. So when it's dormant, it looks like the back window of one of those limos that young women barf in during their drunken nights out but, when you switch the box on, it could come alive with some pure white LEDs hidden in there.

Also, I need to know this: 9090 vs 8989, which is better and what are the differences between them in terms of the way they sound?

DUDE! Tinted Tuner Glass that goes clear when turned on! That's a SICK idea!

As for the 9090 vs the 8989....that's apples and oranges. They are so far apart in every way shape and form.

9090: Top controls, smaller in size, twin antenna's, slider controls, two analogue VU's, punch key cassette buttons, upside down deck, no line in our out, tuner light, loudness switch, stereo wide function

8989: Front controls, bigger in size, single antenna, knob controls, one LED VU, semi logic deck, right side up deck, line in and out, no tuner light, no loudness switch, no stereo wide function,

The few things they do have in common, they take 8 batteries, have battery strength meters, SW1&1 AM, FM, APSS music search, Metal CrO2 tape play back capability....oh and they both say SHARP on them!

I'll have to do a sound test between the two..
