what are you best sounding boomboxes.
not necessarily the loudest or bassiest just you favorite sounding boomboxes. if you dont have five just put the ones you like the best.
one piece or compo i am not picky.

heres mine.

panasonic dt707. well whats there to say about the oval shaped one piece ufo shaped box.
well the sound of it is absolutely stunningly good for a portable. cool flip up display fully remote controlled tape decks.
sure if you pump the bass to high your skip your cd player and you might think you are listening to aphex twin.
sound wise its amazingly good. not as bassy as a kaboom but it hits really good. decent preset eqs and a techno surround sound which is very much like the biophonic sound on jvc. i am sure that on the panny its dsp based instead of analog based.

these were super expensive new and you can hear and see why.
for some they might despise them beacause of there shape, but they trully are a fantastic boombox in terms of its sound.
still cheap usually in the second hand world.

panasonic 680 and 690.
the squarer cousins to the 707. now maybe these are the last great rectangular boomboxes. big sound big bass just great sounding. tape decks on these usually are hooped now when you get them in some way shape of form. no line in however they really do sound fantastic. big hitting bass nice eqs. very loud detailed sound.

sony fh7
one of the best boomboxes you will ever hear period. warm detailed tight sound excellent eq. best of all digital tuners on a boombox imho.
excellent tape deck. rivaling the pc55 i think. in fact this boombox goes head to head with the big jvc three piece. i think its just as amazing maybe a little better.

sanyo m9998k
yep its a one piece but they way the speakers are laid out they must have somehow baffled them from the rest of the boombox. its really has amazing sound and a fantastic degree of headroom. you can turn it up pretty much all the way and it still sounds good.
wide function on this is extremely wonderful. really really excellent.

now if i had to give a honorable mention or two.

hmmm sony fh215r. not quite as detailed at the fh7 but trully amazingly rich loud home stereo like sound. hit the sat button and drop your jaw. these monsters hit as hard in the bass dept as my kaboom but have excellent eq control. build quality not as nice as a fh7 but just excellent.

the kaboom would have made my list too if i had not used two votes for the 680 and 690.
the kaboom for sure is a fantastic boombox.

Always tough to pick the 5 best boxes for any poll, I love them all. Here's my five but the order has no bearing on how they compare.

1. M90
2. C-100F
3. CS-880
4. Baby Kaboom the 550 model
5. RX-C20

I put the C20 in there because it sounds really good and certainly not because of its volume, it doesn't get very loud.

1. Panasonic RX-CT800

Panasonic's RX-CT800 has a 5 band EQ and detachable speakers with both a woofer and tweeter-making for a powerful bass-driven sound.

The EQ bands are:
100Hz
330Hz
1kHz
3.3kHz
10kHz

Panasonic's boomboxes are known for having excellent sound quality-and the RX-CT800 is no exception.

For example:setting the 330Hz equalizer band to to +10 gives a powerful bass driven sound.

Because of that, it's my top best sounding boombox and I like to use it lots.

2. Panasonic RX-DS11
Panasonic's RX-DS11 is from around 1996-1997 has a simple XBS bass boost that really brings out deep bass sound-it's also very loud like the CT800.

3. Sharp GX-CD130

Another component system-this time from the mid 90's with a CD player and a Sharp.

Just like Panasonic RX-CT800 this Sharp has detachable speakers with both a woofer and tweeter-and X-BASS bass boost for excellent bass heavy sound.

4. Sharp GF-3939

Sharp's GF-3939 is quite basic when it comes to sound control-only has a volume and tone control, but boy it csan get very loud sounding.

5. Sony CFD-V7

Last but not least-a 2001 Sony boombox with a "bass reflex body" design and MEGA BASS-it sounds exceptionally nice.

1, Sanyo Big Ben
2, Conion C-100
3, Denon H-55
4, JVC M-70
5, RISING 20/20

I find it hard to really define what makes one sound 'better' than another (unless it's painfully obvious) as the sound reproduction of each box can differ so greatly in it's personality, but that's my list.

The Big Ben is easily the best portable I've ever heard, in every single respect. Going fidelity wise I rate this leagues above everything else I own, just pure perfection. The very agressive and volume charged Conion is next, even though it's not what I'd call hi-fi sound I still think it is phenomonal sounding for what it's designed to do; and that's blasting at ludicrous volume. Denon next for the pure quality and power for a smallish size 3 piece, when this is going at a reasonable volume it blows people away with it's clarity and range. It does cheat by the amp being essentially only mains powered, but still, the sound is very lovely. The M-70 is a workhorse that has a sound we all love and admire, perfect balance of power and detail,... it always makes me wonder how much better an M-90 must sound. The RISING I list not because of it's hi-fi range, but like the TRC-931 it has an overall sound that delivers that impressive BOOM sound that characterises a true boombox, and the RISING manages to really get a warmth about it's sound, which is very hard to find in a moderately priced one-piece.

Rock On.

Ira I couldn't agree more. Every time I think about the five I listed I can't help but think I have many more that should be on that list.
