How does your gold spray colour compare to the original colour? Will it be more goldish or still a light champagne?

I will try to keep the donor box as complete as possible for someone if they really wanted to restore it, but at this point it is turning into just a parts box.

There was only 1 good antenna from 2 boxes, so no antennas are going to be for sale.
how about an antenna stub?

lookin good, joe.....cant wait to see the finished product!!!

Hey Greg, I will hold onto an antenna stub for ya buddy! :w00t:

Stretch, there was NOTHING even close to matching the champane color of the original case. I had over 300 paints to select from :dunce: . The closest thing was SILVER! hahaha

The paint I went with is a Krylon brand "gold metallic" so it will definetly be a more vibrant and better looking finish than the original  .

I just popped off the cassette tray, pried off the grills, popped out the shiney gold MIC grills, and did some soldering on the board. The wires going to the power switch were broke off the contacts, and I found some other wire that was cut for some reason and had tape over one end :hmmm: . I need to either get those soldered back together and covered or figure out why that wire was cut  . Also sprayed deox in all the sliders and switches  .

Tomorrow I am starting on the sanding and prep work on the case.

my best guess--
your local hobby shop that sells model plane and car kits may have close to
the original color --
ask for titanium

PS - I just sprayed a sample of the gold and I don't know if it is quite the look I was going for :hmmm: ...... It's a little too "brown" compared to the shiney gold parts which have a much more "yellow" look to them. :annoyed:

I have this struggle going on in my head to keep it looking original and more valuable, or get a little custom and compromise the value possibly :-/ .

What should I do? :dunce:

That's a hard question. But think you've got the skills to make the "little customish" look so awesome it will be more valuable than the original

 - You guys are funny.

Because there are still parts of the original boombox finish that can't be refinished due to having text on them, I am going to get our painter to mix up some base/clear that is a close match to original  .

That's what I feel will look the best with what I am dealing with. If there was NO original finish that I had to keep then I would shoot it the metallic gold like I originally wanted......

The big color sample is the gold metallic and the small color chip is the mix I will have our painter lay down for me:

color1.jpg

color.jpg

Just got the mix formula:

PRISM
6560 PRISM SM BRT 226.5
DMT7 WHITE PEARL T 90.6
6506 METALLIC MIX 90.6
6544 RED GOLD 29.9
6513 BLACK 9.6
6546 YS MAROON 4.0
6508 PRISM BC MIX 696.2

CROSSFIRE PLATINUM 5.0
CF139 BRGT FINE MET 254.3
CF135 BRGT MED META 84.9
CF115 RED GOLD 48.0
CF100 STRONG BLACK 31.4
CF114 STRONG MAROON 8.0
CF128 FERRITE YELLO 2.4
CF223 BASECOAT FIXE 276.3
CF224 VOC BALANCEIN 183.5

If this color turns out to be a great close match, then I can get formulas to have custom spray paint cans mixed. That way all you other guys with M71s or M75s can do a case restoration and know you have a paint that is good.

Fuz,
You say that the top panel is getting painted too, so does that mean you are spraying over the lettering and then adding it back afterwards?
