I would have to say the Panasonic RX-C20 mini is my most underrated box. It puts out better sound quality than many of the big boxes I have, it just won't go as loud.

Hi guys-This is a great thread-here's one for sure:The Sanyo M9970!!
It has coaxial speakers and is from 1980'.
Now with the looks and the size it's not very intimidating but when you crank it up and get the bass going it really sound excellent!

Photos coming in about an hour-I'm taking it outside to listent o while I finish cleaning my new JVC PC-X 105 that I just got yesterday.

I really think my 9970 sound more like a bigger box especially wjehn you get the bass going!
Small speakers-great sound-especially for 79'-80'.
BTW-my first stereoboombox-bought in New York City Manhattan 1980'!!
Have a great weekend-GB. :-)

:agree:, I was contemplating tossing my Sanyo M-9930 into this thread. It's a far better sounding box than it should be considering it was lower in the Sanyo line. :-D

that could be "the sleeper par exellence",yep,
Thanks, Jens, for the photos of the aka's and for agreeing that this one's a real sleeper. I wish I could prove it somehow on this forum, but the sound from this box would absolutely blow you away.

And to make sure I'm not just hyperventilating about this unit, I just brought mine out (it's always ready-to-go) and played it for my wife. And she completely agrees with my "blow you away" assessment. Which means something, since she hardly ever agrees with me about anything. So there!

:-P

.........such boxes do appear now and then - ..off brand/no name/ boxes ....or unheard names on the housing...
but it`s realy great to find such a hidden sleeper and to be surprised by the sound!

the off brands for sure: :-)
sampo cs 407
aiko rtr 5012
zenith k9097

:agree:

the sampo is unique and super rare.there is only an identically one from sampo the cs408,did not find out the difference(s) yet.
the aiko rtr5012 is a rare,it appeared also as hermes and as radiotone.

And the zenith-k9097 -I don`t know this one(!)-
maybe it is in the base as unknown zenith model.
Have you got a picture of this?

Hi Guys-here's the photos of my Sanyo M9970-This thing really sounds nice for the size!
It even has co-axial speakers!
I love the colored buttons!-it's an 80's thing! :-P
It's from 1980' a good year!
I had it up to 10 and with the bass and treble adjusted where it's not too heavy on the bass and the stereo wide switch on-no distortion!!
Yes this is an underrated box-again small speakers for the era-great sound!
Here's the photos& have a super weekend-GB. :-) :

The dt680 is probbly one of the most underated boxes out there, heck it probbly blows away most of the grails in sheer quality of sound for that matter the whole platinum range is verry underated, one thing about them they all sound exactly the same, same power etc just different features
Have to agree. Just picked up a CT-980 and I'm stunned by the power and sound. Not pretty like the grails, but it delivers the goods big time! Ira always told me that bi-amped was the way to go. Now I agree!

Hey Tim... Any chance you could show a photo of your 990? I'd like to compare it to my my 980.
If not, maybe you could tell what you know about the differences.
Pleeeeze!

Its very rare in the fact she has those swiches on the top, they are for speed control and i have never seen this feature on this model before, she also features remote control.

I vote for the JVC RC-M90 as the most under-rated boombox of all time. Because it is even more kick-a$$ than people even realize. :angelic:

There.... I said it. :w00t:

I like your Panny (and your photo) better. At first glance, the two boxes look a lot alike. At second glance, the 980 is noticeably cheaper! The lack of a speed control is just the beginning...
