What is the biggest chance you took on a box?

I think my biggest risk was a big box I bought from a rocker in Russia through Facebook; it took 11 weeks to get here. I'd written it off.. but it was well worth the wait and effort and Anton as a total rocker.
What box did you get from Russia? I almost bought a sweet Marantz from Slovenia, but chickened out.

I had a similar thing with a Perdisco TRK-8600 off yahoo. Bad photos that made it look super rough and what looked like a crack down it's side of the case, but I bought it for about $16 (+shipping of course..) and took the risk thinking I might be able to fix her up.

When I got it I saw what I thought was the crack was actually the point of sale tag still on her... and the condition was, well, you can see for yourself.

It's not the biggest chance I've taken though, I ended up having to spend about 1500 in total to get one good quality CFS-99...(my third one off yahoo.jp). ICS STR-5092
Wonderful boombox!
But runs like a month old curry on batteries... drains 10D's faster than any other radio I've got.

Thanks Static! I'd rate it in my top-ten best looking radios too, from a design perspective, it's so clean and classy.

How is the quality on the ICS STR-5092? I have never seen one come up for sale in the states. Looks to be a MONSTER. Just Googled some YouTube video's. I always look at the size of the cassette decks to gage size and factor in the gap between the decks (in this case) and if those are 8" speakers, then it looks to be about the size of a J1. Is that true? Any pic's of the two together?

I see they made the ICS STR-5091, and ICS STR-5092 both really good looking radio's.

The 5092 is the same length/height as a J1 but has slightly shallower depth, which makes it MUCH easier to carry around. The depth and handle position on a J1 makes it very uncomfortable to carry, well for me it is.

They're kind of similar sounding, big empty black boxes all have the usual hallmarks of good volume and bass but little else.

My 5092 is in great condition too, beautiful boombox.

I've had a couple high priced units that I purchased and was worried about. One was a Clairtone 7980 for $1500 from a real jerk from Canada, ( most members know whom I'm speaking of ). Luckily box was packed great and was minty. The other was the most expensive I've paid and was screwed due to damage.
