I couldn't resist any longer, just picked up my first boombox, a Sharp GF 8989 to sit along side my Aiwa receiver 7300 and National Panasonic SG-70 tape and radio deck. Loving it! :-D
P.s. nice to meet you all.

Man I wish I could but the sticker got scratched up during shipping :'-( that picture I posted was off the ebay auction, since I couldn't find my camera. Its to bad since I was looking forward to getting a good look at what was actually on the sticker.

ok - but still TRY to send the best rez photo you can to fatdog -
he can extrapolate the scratches out :-)

Yup, I'd say "Fastdog" since he can redraw a new one in a blink-of-an-eye... :-D ;-)

Chordeater, Sony made a Megabass version of that boomer (CFS-DW50), with a little extra woofer in the back. Perhaps that model would cure the lack of bass?

Also I see a Panasonic RX-FM27 in the background there. If anyone wants one of these, I've got one I no longer use (it's US-spec ac-input, however).

¿A little extra woofer in the back? ... :hmmm: it would be perfect!! :-D
I didn't know about these version, but I don't think I will buy another similar Sony. Well, the reason is I like any boombox but my room is very limited, so I choose one or two per brand, and this is my third Sony :stereo:

About the FM27, the radio sounds amazing, is my dialy "radio provider" at work. I listen to it with all sound buttons On except High Cut, and I LOVE it.

The Panasonic is a nice quality mini. I only whish mike could run off UK AC mains...

btw, will be cranking up the JVC PC-V2 later... :-)

Well, not 'cranking up' exactly but listening at a moderate level;

The Sharp GF9494 'Walking On Sunshine' by Rockers Revenge. Sounds superb

My Telefunken Studio 1M. The first boombox I purchased post 2000. Man is thing loud, I cant get it past 20 (the volume knob goes to 40?) I laughed when I saw that it goes to 40, all I could think about was the scene from Spinal Tap:

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
