My mistake, I thought you posted "soma FM" (http://www.somafm.com) but your post was actually "some FM"-so sorry, i'm getting blind at my age ;-)
That gf 9797 picking up an am signal almost 1,000 miles away is really amazing wow.

The reason I ask is I worked with a buddy of mine up there who invented this movie screen cleaner. It would clean all the gummie bears from the screen and that imax screaan was 100ft by 80ft. We cleaned 9 screens at the mall of america or near there and installed 2 screens, it was a fun weekend. The only other time I was in that area we had to bid on a zoo construction job for the zoo up there in the twin city. I like the area, it's very nice. I see you're finding some thrfting blasters you should post some pics it's always inteesting to check out other collections.
Cheers

Cleaned and rotated my collection today, took the Prosonic 9962 and the old warbird 777 for a spin.

The prosonic sounded great till a song with a lot of bass made the spring that pushes the cassette rattle. I could swear I fixed that before. Guess the spring sprung back, but no big deal. A quick bend and the box is rattle free again.

While messing with my 777 it took me about 10 minutes to figure out why my line in was so weak!
Long story short, I hooked it up to line out like a big dummy. Lol. Here I am f'ing around with the function switch and line/phono selecta. Thinking that I really cleaned the hell out of all the pots and switches, I don't remember it giving me any problems before..... I guess that's what I get for living up north. I really don't get a good chance to take em out and play around with em while the weather is so crappy up here. And if I want to listen to music I usually fire up the HiFi.

But its always nice to jam out with a box every now and then. Can't wait till spring and summer so I can rock the block at volumes way past 10!
Peace.

This old battle hardened box still sounds sweet. I like to think I gave it a second lease on life along with my others, they all get time in the sunshine.:-)

Damn, the sound on this thing is tight.

YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On soundstage alone, this is my best aqquisition yet. :breakdance: Stunning. I could go on about the way the stereo wide feature brings out the mids with striking clarity, the crispy highs, the thick yet tight bass...needless to say, I'm impressed...if an MR-X920 sounds better than this, I don't know what to think.

i dont think the 920 sounds quite as good as the 9998-

but --as :super: has proclaimed -- the 920 model performance
depends on the cap condition

:hmmm: That's what I've read...I searched the site for "M9998" and did some catching up on Super and Melly's "Pepsi Challange" with the 9998 and the 920...great reading...two of each model? Are you freakin' kidding me?

...hey Ira, me and the Super-one compared a recapped 920 to 2 near mint 9998's and the recapped 920 smoked them both. So to answer the question a recapped 920 sounds cleaner and has more bass than a 9998...and of course I immediately purchased the recapped 920... :-D ...just my 2 cents.

GF 515z (from my avatar). Sascha Braemer - the Train tech mix. Making some funny tests - listening to same track with my Sennheiser headphones than PA active speakers and than back to the velvety sound of the 515  .
