What Boombox Are You Cranking Up Right Now??

I just scored a PC-550C. I know you have,or had, them. Any woofer besides stock do you recommend? Are the PC 55JW speakers "better"?
There are slight differences between the PC 55 and 550 speakers.
The PC 55 woofers have slightly larger magnets and they seem to have an aluminum dust cap as where the 550 has a plastic dust cap. The PC 11 has speakers more similar to the 55 but still even though they look the same the magnets ate slightly small than those of the PC 55.
This box is hard to tune . the ports are poorly designed and leak air around the edges. Plus they speakers are 5 inch and it's a hard size to find a decent replacement.
It's trial and error unless you get lucky the first time.

Thank you Floyd. I have already been looking at aftermarket speakers. There are a pair of 55 cabinets with original speakers for sale on eBay but they want about as much ($200) as I gave for the radio. What about closed back speakers? My hearing isn't great anymore but I can still hear the difference in speakers. I can't afford an M 90 anymore. I should have kept the one I had 13 years ago. I had an PC 11 and liked it a lot.

To me the PC 11 is a great sounding boombox. It's got a great eq and power .

Let me know if you want to let them go. I have forgot how the enclosures are made. They have one port on the front. When you said leaks air, is it a a closed system?

A closed back speaker won't have any bass . the closed back speakers are usually mid range or tweeters.

Its ported box but where the port on the front plate goes into the hole in the cabinet don't seal up and the air just hisses by the port.

Under the speaker box there's 2 screws that hold the front of the speaker on . if you remove those screws and pull up from the bottom the whole front of the speaker comes off. Let me look at the speakers beforehand so I can make sure there's no issues .

I haven't got it yet. I have they are gentle with it in shipping. I have a thing about looking in advance for upgrades. I may be ok with it the way it is.

I won't use it much so I can try and keep the LCD alive.
It's just me but continued use is better because it's more consistent.
It's like a race horse that sits around eating cheese curls then has to get up and run the Kentucky Derby lol.

Well Secretariat ate 15 quarts of oats a day, plus hay, and was known to be a little bit lazy lol.

I saw all his Triple Crown wins. " He's moving like a tremendous machine!", one of the best announcements of all time along with the 1980 men's hockey teams win over Russia. His heart weighed around 22 pounds, a normal horse's weighs around 12. He still owns all three time records in the Triple Crown. He was STILL accelerating at the end of the Belmont stakes, incredible, with no jocky's whip applied. 51 year's and holding. If he was allowed to run as a four year old there is no telling what he might have accomplished. I guess being put out to stud is just as good lol. My family has owned and shown Tennessee Walking Horses nearly my whole life. Not anymore.
