What Boombox Are You Cranking Up Right Now??

One Of My Favourite Boomers.........

This Brandt (Really a Sanyo M-9996K - The French Version) was bought completely broken in so many ways

Around 2 weeks of intense surgery & new belts, it was working again - This is one of the hardest stereo's to work on that I ever encountered

The results though are stunning!! The internally sealed speaker boxes sound incrediible, sweet detailed highs & woofers that move air - yes they seem to be acoustic suspension types, you can watch them really move in & out on any lively tracks!!

Soft touch mechanism, advanced music search, Led dual colour meters an excellent tuner & bullet proof build quality make this a heavy beast.............Tape deck is way above most portable stereo standards, very stable due to a huge flywheel & a motor with external over engineered servo board make this a joy to use & listen to!!

Close little brother to the legendary M-9998, same tape deck & shared components throughout, it's one to get hold of if you see one going - a challenge to repair - but if I can do it - anyone can!

These are big beautys aren't they? They have size and presence and sound well good when healthy
I wonder if mines are not so healthy. Both of them have kinda distorted sound, at any volume and the sound is a bit "weak". Any tips to what caps to replace or should I go and replace them all?

I got this box as deck not working but it turned out to be a nice looking paperweight as radio and line-in weren’t working very well either.
It’s cleaned up well anyway but would like to get it fully working properly.

Yeah I had one of those, and the controls were all messed up. Balance was louder on one side than it was in the middle.

Tonight, I pulled my dusty, modded Panasonic RX-DT680 from the pile. After a quick clean up, I hooked up my iphone7 via the RCA line in and wow, I’d forgotten how great the bass heavy 680 sounds.

The 680 would kill 90% of the BT speakers out there for sound quality and bass. Throw in the convenience of a CD player, decks, 5 band equalizer, a full function remote and a very nice AM/FM tuner, a modded 680 is the best budget combo ever!! :-)

It’s hard to believe I modded this box a full 4 years ago!!

This will be my go to weekend box for a while. :-)
