A little downtime before I fire up the grill. I don't think I've had the CK-3 outside since last fall, so it's getting a little vitamin D today. :beer2:

Jap GF9000 (GF535) ... it is fully working but why to wear off the tape mechanism even though it got a new belt and working like new. Using my high end Akai GXC 570D deck...I have 2 of them in mint condition.

Thank you! That GXC 570 is built like a tank and sounds so good! Play buttons are touch sensors.
And don't forget about the cool dampened top door panel! Was my first intro to Akai gear when my brother brought one home.

That is correct! It is an excellent deck with all good features... even opens the top cover with a motor. Double capstan and pinch roller!

You won't hear a thing when the deck works. It is whisper quiet! It got massive solenoids that operates with a loud thud noise. I fell in love with this deck and bought one more.

To get the correct size pinch rollers was such a nightmare.....
They are 11mm outer diameter. Expensive to buy!
I had to make them from rubber caps.
Slipped it at the lower end of a drill bit, used that as a rotary tool to sand off extra thickness with emery paper. Then tried it on the deck and finally glued it to the original bearing. Came out so nice.
Deck now works like new!

I need to make two more for the second 570D deck I have

Great info and good to know for the future as I have one also that needs reviving !

Did you have to polish the rollers for a smoother finish at all?

I used a 400 grit emery paper to sand it down and then used a 1000 grit to smooth the surface.

I will post on how I did the job. The one on the left should be precise. There is a tape guide that goes over it. Also tak care not to loose those tiny washers between the roller and the axle. They are so tiny.
