BBCR2's "The Onanist Organist Entertains" as presented by Nigel Ogden. Even Wurlitzers that aren't classic shellac-playing jukeboxes sound amazing on the latest B&O in my collection, the Beosystem Century that I bought from Si (Northerner) during a trip to his place last Saturday. Demo vid coming soon, when I get the Zoom Q2HD and the tripod in the same room as the B&O.

Not a boombox because it has no onboard battery? Neither does the Technics SAC05L except when I take out its mains PSU and fit one. The Century has a handle, is self contained & free standing, thumps like a bastard when I feed it some dubstep, classic dub, metal or bodhrán music and it has lots of pretty lights on its control panel.

Boombox? I like to think so if only because the very notion causes the B&O purists' blood pressure to rise!

Great machine!
I do like how it looks both with grills and without them.
Thank you Alex!

The top brushed Al finish is Awesome! Also the knobs and all. I wish JVC ever learned to make quality finish from Panasonic and Sony from those days!

So rare to find a working one in excellent cosmetic shape!

I was hunting for replacing the tweeters of this with poked dust caps (previous owners babies searching fingers did the damage in a few seconds when he was cleaning the box) for almost 7 years till I got one in the mail yesterday. Made my day! I know it s so rare!
Oh my! This is one of the most good looking boxes Sony ever made. I have the CFS 99 that is the space age box!
So rare!

Beautiful unit, as Al says this looks great with or without grills. Lovely condition to, such a looker. I picked up a CF77 recently and am growing to love it as it looks so different to any other!

7 years!! A long run, Royce, but you've made it finally - congratulations! :-)
Which one, in your opinion, sounds better - 85 or 99?
I'd bet bottom dollar on 85 though I haven't listen to either of them yet just heard a few opinions from my buddies in the hobby who own 99s.
I like how the 99 looks - those acoustic lenses in front of tweeters - wow!

Yep, it does look so interesting.
Again, tweeters are eye catchers.
I was hunting for either a decent 77 or a 99 a while ago at Yahoo JP but didn't succeed that time.

Dear Alex, We all love boomboxes because they all are different and one or other and cannot love only a single brand or type. A good working CFS 99 is loud and very good for Jazz. Sony 85s is such a beautiful looking box crafted with so much detail and perfection but about sound quality I would say it is "above average" when I listen to mine in almost new condition. I love both CFS 99 and 85s. For the cosmetics 85s is always on the top.

I love the looks of CFS 77. I have the complete series of CFS. My fav is CF 590 which is so rare!

Dear Royce, absolutely so! I do share your point.
Actually I asked because I used to hear a few comments from my pals having 99-s on how they sound.
To my bit of surprise, they weren't satisfied enough as they had initially expected more from such a solid built and top-notch Sony one-piecer.
Then they just said - well, it sounds "so-so", featureless. Nothing to write home about. :-)
Each own opinion is subjective, of course, I'd love to listen to 99 and compare it to other deserved one-piecers like Panny RX-5700 or Tosh 9990, or JVC 838, or Aiwa 990 if I have a chance to grab 99 someday.

Dear Alex,
The CFS 99 that I had to begin with was looking so nice but not that good sounding. I just kept it for the unique looks. The second CFS 99 I got was sounding awesome! That became one of my fav boomboxes for Jazz. So it has to do with the condition of these boxes after so many years. I have two GF 777 and one is a Gem and the other one is an average sounding one. Only people like our Professionals here can tell us what can go wrong over these years. It could be capacitors going bad, resistors, alignment, and so on....

Nothing can keep me away from loving them for the looks!

A 5350 or a M90?

I will run after a 5350.

So it depends bro

Dear Royce,

Yes, another very good point - like my colleagues once commented - I had tested maybe a dozen of Nationals/Pannies RX-C46 and all of them sounded a bit differently.
