At first glance your Sears radio reminds me of a Sanyo M-9998...and you say it sounds great?
I mean, Sears? Really? In my time here I don't think I have ever seen anyone even mention a Sears radio, much less show one off.
Gotta admit, though, with the Sanyo-ish styling, it really looks sweet. :hmmm: Do those mics really mount on the top or are they just sitting up there?

Now watch prices on eBay bump & jump.

It sounds better than great actually :-D . The mics fit just like the Sanyo's...same exact thing. I have only found this 1 Sears box since i've started collecting...and i love it. At night it looks great when it's on!

It's a Sanyo M9996 AKA - so it's a baby M9998 and I bet it sounds like a typical late seventies Sanyo - fantastic!!!

Nice one,

James.... :-)

More like a combo of a 9996 & a 9998, actually. I've had both and while the center layout resembles, as you say, a 9996, those speakers definitely scream 9998. The 9996's speakers have more of a molded trim while the 9998's are the black mesh grill look.

I had one of these a few years back. Now have a 492...but still think about the ol' 480. :-)

Decided to put the 8 D cells in my favourite Toshiba (RT-9000s) and play some very loud, very solid-sounding '80s easy listening stuff. Apologies for the glass cutting treble, phone cam all sweet & dandy for 1080p vids but it doesn't do sound so well:
