Very interesting sighting of neglected boombox

Hello, today i had to do some grocery shopping to my neighbour who lives one floor below me in my flat and after i did his shopping, i stepped inside and i saw a Panasonic RX-5022S in the kitchen, i took a closer look and it looked very horrid. Its owner is in early 80s, doesn´t hear very well, smokes inside his flat and this boombox mirrored it very well. I also asked him about it, i didn´t understand him well, but he said it´s his late wife´s radio and he doesn´t sell it at all. I offered a reasonable price but he doesn´t seem to understand me at all. But hey, some pictures also. It sure is neglected horribly.

It sure does, it just screams for cleaning and i do everything i can to get it in my possession. Not gonna steal it but i´ll offer some money or replacement radio. It´s not fair but i just want to bring it back to it´s former glory. I mean, it´s all intact, cassette and battery compartments are just mint, it looks horrid inside, that´s all. I do what i can.

I think it's alright. Neglected, yes but alright. I can't see any lettering worn away from careless use so maybe it's only had light use?

'Very Senior Citizens' don't have a reputation for abusing personal possessions to the best of my knowledge so I would tend to think it's in pretty good physical shape although grotty. The only potential issue I could foresee would be the extent of nicotine and grease/fat/spillages internally, how far would these have penetrated and to what thickness/depth? Could you save all the fat to fry some chips in, huh, cud ya?! On a lighter note, all that grease would prevent the onset of rust!

Don't badger the guy, the BB's probably very precious to him but you could try and make his days better by showing appreciation of his prized possession!

I guess it also has light use but it´s covered with grease and some kind of other goo.

I´ll think about it. By appreciation you mean that i should clean his boombox for good ? That´s actually quite neat idea But i´ll see how i can negotiate about it. Even cleaning it would be a pleasure, but getting it to a better home feels even better. We´ll see for sure.

Haha, i also would love to clean it.I'll do my best to get it nice and lovely just like in the old days. But it sure is the worst case i've ever seen. Thanks for the interest and happy new year !

I'd leave the old mans box alone. Especially if it has sentimental value to him. There are plenty of low end boxes out there to be had.
Besides that....................it looks horrendous! ...geez!

This is actually one really nice boombox, but i'm afraid it's quite rare here,i usually come across Soviet made boomboxes. I guess i better not bother him. If anyone has one for sale, let me know. Happy new year !

Nah, i didn't smell it, but i guess it smells heavily of nicotine and grime/dirt.

We'll see how it goes, all i want is to turn it back clean and solid. It seems to be rare too, very little information about it in Google.

Asked him about it today too. Offered a trade radio and money,but nothing. I guess i'll go down for one in better condition or just available,no matter if it's RX-5010/5020/5030.
