The miniature world of railway modelling

Hello!
Some people, ask me, and I decided to share my collection of trains.
All started many years ago with this kit:

Then, I had other locomotives, wagons and rails. When I grew up all this was stuck.

In 2009 I find a forum for rail modeling. For over half a year I have been reading
the various topics in the forum and I learned a lot of interesting things.
So, my passion for trains came back again.

There are 3 important criteria:

1. Size:
Railway modeling or train modeling is a hobby,
whereby rail transport systems are recreated in scale models of varying sizes.
Models may include both rolling stock (locomotives, wagons, cars),
route, signaling, buildings, streets, greenery, etc.

There are a few scales: HO, TT, N, Z The most popular is HO - 1:87

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rail_transport_modelling_scale_standards

2. Epoch: It shows the historical affiliation.
1835-1920 - Epoch 1
1920-1945 - Epoch 2
1945-1968 - Epoch 3
1968-1994 - Epoch 4
1994-2010 - Epoch 5
2011 to the present day - Epoch 6

3. Administration: It shows the geographical affiliation. (to which country it belongs)

DB - Germany
FS - Italy
SNCF - France
NS - The Netherlands
BDZ - Bulgaria
and other....

Here's a link to the Rail Modeling site:
http://www.railwaypassion.com/?cid=3

The headlines are in English and Bulgarian. The forum is only for my country,
so the language is Bulgarian and you will not be able to read anything from there.
But you can watch it if you want.
To be continued.

Very interesting! Post more pictures of your collection when you can. I used to have a basic layout on a big sheet of plywood when I was a kid. There were hopes of making it into something great - with mountains, streams, bridges, etc. Sadly, I never did see my vision realized, but I've always had a special place in my heart for toy trains.

Not too far from me, there is a group of people keeping larger scale hobby trains alive. They have huge tracks within a city park where kids and adults can ride the trains for free - donations are accepted though.

Thank you all.
After reading a lot of topics in the forum, I decided to make a model train layout.
This is the scheme of the project:
piko 3.jpg
The work began in the autumn of 2009.
There were many problems to solve.
Forum members helped me with tips and ideas.
One year later, in the autumn of 2010, the model train layout was almost ready.
Here are the stages of work:
1. making the base of wood.
2. laying the track.
3. laying cables and connecting the entire system.
4. making platforms.
5. installation of the buildings, sold separate, only need to be assembled.
6. laying the grass, sell on sheets and stick to the base.
7. ballasting the rails with a special small ballast and sticking it.
8. making roads.
9. landscaping with trees and pine trees, sold separate.
10. making hills and mountains.

Here is a short video of 3 minutes, which shows my job for 1 year.

I am not surprised to meet another modeller here! Personally, I am into plastic jets modeling (as those who visit S2G forum know because I cannot stop bragging about it) but the general idea is the same. You spend months restoring or building a piece and then spend hours begging your family to take a look/listen :-)
And this is why we r here!!

I know almost nothing of model railways but find the topic really interesting. I used to make little cardboard houses with gardens from cornflake boxes when I was very young but, way before this (probably in the 1950's) I was allowed to watch a complete - and large - model railway set-up with 'grown-ups'. I have never remembered where this was but I was so impressed I never forgot, even the smell of oils, lubricants or something of this nature has never left me - how strange is that?
