C'mon guys, i cannot believe you can't beat M90. I've got Technics SA-C06 which I'm listening at home, Fisher PH-490 at work, and some other boomers. EVERY one of them has it's highs and lows. Just acquired my M90, would love to make some comparison against others whet it's restored.

I can agree that there are cheaper boxes out there that can put out more bass or go louder than the M90. The Bumpboxx is one of them. If we want to stay vintage then my C100 is louder and IMO has better bass. Are they better? When I look at every aspect, I have to say no. Aside from loudness and maybe even quality of sound and flashy LEDs is the quality of the controls and circuit design of the M90. My C100 goes way louder and has more bass but flip the function switch on most any of its controls and it is accompanied by a pop or click through the speakers even when clean and properly working (stereo to wide function more specifically). The JVC is silent in all of the selectors (when clean), smooth on the weighted radio dial and a strong tuner not to mention a full 2 motor logic cassette deck.

I believe there are portable radios that can out volume and out bass the M90 but the quality in the overall design speaks to collectors which is why they command the high prices and at the same time are a love hate relationship depending on which side of the fence you are on.

Rimmer36, I'm telling you that your M90 needs some love and affection or it is under performing for some reason.

The crisp and clean sound with warm bass of M90 has no match to many boxes out there. Panasonic RX5350 (Not National RX5350 or National Panasonic RX5350) can beat it in ambience mode. That is all I've seen so far!


I have both and PC 5 runs and hides away from M90. PC 5 lost it's underwear and ran away!

the only reason my pc5 outperforms both of my m90's is because i put 3.2 ohms speakers in guys, as standard it is no match....but i will say this i have all the jvc brochures and the m90 and pc5 are rated at the same power as regards to the conion c100 i agree it is louder but iv said before it is mickey mouse market quality lol....i still love it though

you know the m90 is my long time fave radio floyd lad, im trying to find some panasonic dt 680 speakers to put in my pc55 because they are rated at 3.2 ohms....the pc55 is also rated at higher power than any other jvc boombox....that's what it it states in the brochures anyway lol

mine actually sounds very nice floyd lad, i just want to blow away anything on the planet lol....i did that to the pc 11 which is piss weak to be honest but with 680 drivers in it transformed it

The PC ain't weak its just hindered by the speakers. Mine will ****ing piss on some one piece boxes .

My PC 11 s*** on the PC 55 for clean sound.

These big powerful combo boxes with the right speakers will make you rethink what badass is.

I am honestly can't listen to One Piece boxes because they don't have nowhere near the ass of the compo boxes.

To tell the truth my C7 will wreck my f****** jvc's any day

The PC-55JW is rated at 27 watts per channel. Warltts consumes is 87.
The PC-55C is 27 watts per channel and 93 watts draw. These are very loud and I hooked up my PC-55JW which I bought brand new in 1985 and I hooked it up to my JBL 10” 3-Way home loudspeakers for a little while when I was right before getting my new home receiver and the sound was amazing!! Couldn’t believe it could power those with some decent bass to. But with 27wpc,they truly are wick!!😎📻

If you want mickey mouse quality, that's the C126 and TC999.
The C100 is way better quality than those two.

I agree Reli. The C100 has metal speaker grills made out of truck frames, metal faceplate trim, centering lock on the potentiometers, two IC amp chips (one per channel just like the M90) and a true 3 way speaker system (despite the one piezoelectric style tweeter on each side...not my favorite), a weighted tuning flywheel for easier searching along with a FM muting tuner.

Its not a clean sound like our M90s because it can't produce the crisp highs of the JVC but its polished chrome and LED lights definitely add to the spirit of the 80's where the M90 hides in the dark (unmodified).

When I can't make up my mind which one I want to listen to, I think...ok....do you want to show off (C100) or be more refined and classy (M90)

The best thing about the conion is if you turn it up past halfway it sounds like Rosie O'Donnell drowning lol. You even get a nice light show as she gurgles to death.
The m90 is that old man that looks past his prime but can open up one of those old man bus fight beatdowns
