I will say this, the PC-5 amp is rated at 6-ohms impedance which is already somewhat low for a BTL type amp. Putting 3.2 ohm drivers in there is akin to installing 1.6 ohm drivers in a SE amp. Sure it gets loud, but let’s see how long it will last!
Make no mistake Norm it's risky but some people choose the risk lol. Like dr. McCoy in Star Trek the Voyage Home he chose the danger.

Reno do you still have the Philips ghetto blaster with the subwoofer in the middle ?.

To me that phillips ghetto blaster with the vertical CD player is one hell of a good looking boombox.
I would love to install that pioneer head unit in the area where the CD player is that's if the CD player don't work.

the only phillips worth buying...love the vertical cd player
Too bad it uses such weedy speakers. I laughed when I opened them up and saw them.

The Pc5 is definately a big fave of mine, for such a small box it sounds great, weighes a ton and sits handsom like a mofo.. i have 3 of them..

was going to say that sanyo looks nice, always liked the looks of them, shame its a bit lame in the noise dept, but when you get a good looking box, you can forgive it's slightly lacking sound..

I've never heard a PC-5. I wouldn't be surprised if it has more bass than the M90, but there's no way it has as much mids & highs.

These compo's tend to be mostly mids and highs lol. The M90 does have a pretty strong dense sound at full volume that's where the M 90 really throws down.

The small drivers in these compo systems tend to be less sensitive than big 8 inch drivers so you need to drive them with more amp power. Bass will also be much harder to achieve at volume with smaller drivers.

im not knocking the m90 guys i love it as much as any one, just stating there are much cheaper boxes out there that can out perorm the m90 at much cheaper prices....my pc5 was £250 fully boxed and has more bass than the m90 and same power at half the price, long live the m90

Those compos can't project sound over long distances with those tiny 4" cones, so they can't be heard for blocks like an M70 or M90 or C100. And since their backs are sealed, you lose a lot of volume when you walk behind them or even just to the side of them.

They typically have foam, cloth, or rubber surrounds, which makes good bass for how little they are, and plus they have better amps than most 1-pieces. So yeah they sound pretty good, but only in a bedroom lol. Not outdoors.

Plus, come on JVC, the PC-5 was one of your more expensive units, and you were too cheap to put tweeters in it?? That's a deal-killer for me right there, I don't care how good it sounds. I don't like being cheated by cheapskates, trying to fool me with those fake tweeter grills lol.

I agree that JVC should have put tweeters in these compo's.
They have tons of power but the speakers are the weak spot.

If I were you, Bobby, I would make Freddie drive up and let you hear those speakers that he put in that pc5. I gave him the originals that I replaced. Not sure if he rebuilt them or replaced them.
One thing I am sure of, tho. It sounds better than it did when I owned it!
They have been fully re-foamed and installed. And if I may use a quote from my U.K. brothers:

"It's far more than tickety-boo...It's definitely full of beans!"

thats wicked jimmy lad, all i can say my pc 5 blows away an m90 lol but i will have to try it on batteries sometime
Rimmer36, I'm telling you that your M90 needs some love and affection   or it is under performing for some reason.

The crisp and clean sound with warm bass of M90 has no match to many boxes out there. Panasonic RX5350 (Not National RX5350 or National Panasonic RX5350) can beat it in ambience mode. That is all I've seen so far!

I have both and PC 5 runs and hides away from M90. PC 5 lost it's underwear and ran away! :-D :w00t:

I have a couple of compo boxes that will give the m90 and many other boxes an unmitigated ass whooping.
That being said the m90 power doesn't really kick in till the volume is over half way up , but from on there this beast gets exponential loud , I can crank the m90 like I ****ing stole it so I know these behave. She's a predator no doubt.

I have to agree. I've owned both and it's the M-90, hands down.
