Agree... and I'll add that I prefer the sound of my M70 over my GF-9696 as well. The 9696 is loud, but lacking in well rounded or balanced bass. It's more of a heavy metal / rock box that is heavy on mids and highs, but won't hit a note below 80hz worth a damn. M70 has much better bass. Frankly, I think the GF-9191 / 9292 is a better balanced box (sound wise) than the GF-9696.
Still, if you're trying to choose a "one box fits all unit" between a GF-9x9x and an M70, just get the M70. It has, IMHO, one of the best tape decks ever built into a boombox for quality recordings as well.
With all that said, I think the Sharps look better.
