yup --same here -- not sure of that bar design --
except that its the perfect match for the 2 long side protector bars
( which , i am also not that sure i like )

hope you guys will post some opinions about the bar design -
thanks

Hmmm... Mr. Ira, I have a question, what are the dimensions of the RC-550?

'Cause it seems that with 10" woofers, shouldn't that body be a little bigger? It looks a tad-bit out of proportion... :hmmm:

yes -- i agree that the 2 big 10 " woofs look huge and 'out of proportion ' -

but -- for a big change --i think ??
its an oddball look that i may like

look at this drawing !! or
:-)

Wicked cool idea, Ira....

And if you really put a tape drive in it.... the bar under the tape drive might come in handy to protect the transport buttons. Similar to the Aiwa TPR-950/955.

(There's a particular GE box that might have been useful to you for that project, too.... so a double-thanks :) )

hey jaetee -
IF this case ever becomes a GO -
and then --IF it ends up looking really great -
then --it could have all its own custom fit woofers and amps and a deck installed-- etc etc
ie - a real -- ' start from scratch ' brand new box

but --for starters --
the plan is --to make this case a cosmetic housing -
for a great working//sounding M70 -
which will fit - neatly inside

Ira sometimes i do not know why jvc did not just make that monsterous box when they had made the mono rc550,,basicly it was mostly cosmetics adding the extra speakers mics one more vu ,making the handle ie m90 style and then ,,electronics was simply adding the extra audio chip ,,and had made atleast 10,000 of them       :w00t:

:agree:
a real factory dual 550 with twin 10" woofers -
and the clean power to run them -

would have been the undisputed king of all boxes

love the plan Ira, cant wait to see it down the road a bit. Shame theres not loads of 550 beaters around as you could of tried to build a cut and shut, but i gues if there was we would all be building them

some tiny progress --

while waiting for the SB 10 inch white grills --
the tweeter covers and the outer woof rings arrived --

i know its very hard to see or decide much on a paper mock-up -
but - for the heck of it -
what do you folks like better for this design -

white or black speaker grills ?

Ohh this is very exciting!

Can you trim the 'ends' off the side bars? be lots more boss without them.. for me.

Rock On.
