"Has anyone filed a claim with UPS? What's it like?"

I'm dealing with UPS now. Bought an expensive turntable on ebay this month, and UPS trashed it. Broke it in half on the way out, and broke it some more on the way back to the seller.

The way it works is you file a damage claim online (or Call UPS) and they pick it up, do an inspection, and send it back to the seller. They refund the seller the amount they decide to, and you are not involved, nor will they give you a chance to get the merchandise back, or even tell you what the inspection revealed. What happens to you is up to the seller, who gets the item back maybe. If it is 100% damage claim payout, UPS will most likely keep the item.

Damage claims are no fun. Right now the seller has my payment, and the turntable, and has passed his promised refund date. :nonono:

I have claimed through all carriers of shipping UPS/USPS/FedEX.

It's pretty standard and most places don't take the merchandise or make you send it back to the shipper. FedEX took the most time approx 1 month from file date to check-in-hand.

File claim, take pictures of damage, decription of damage, submit with claim, proof of purchase price (screen shot of paypal receipt), and wait. With FedEX I also had to get the shipper to sign a letter saying to "make claim payment to Joe Shmoe...."

My fingers are crossed for you - to have full refund and to keep the box (it should be some reward for your lost time and stress). Youll find a cover  .

this makes me sick! I too have had radios show up, packed at "Professional" shipping stores that were TRASHED! They don't care, they have employee's that don't care and I have nothing positive to say about them.

F the USPS, F UPS and F Fed Ex.

None of these companies care about how they ship items because they have insurance and you are just another claim.

Sorry for your loss. Glad they don't ship people!

My Conion was packed at Staples and sent through USPS with an insurance of 500$. It arrived in perfect condition and the packing was outstanding  .
I would say that many factors play a role. But the main one is a$$hole employees throwing packages around like crazy. And if your package has the luck to be on the bottom of a ocntainer load - well, you're kinda ****. :-/
The packing job on that GF-999 does not look THAT bad - at least it does not justify a damage of this size :dunce: .
This package must have been tossed around like crazy!
I remember getting my GF777 from China with one side trashed just like that. Somebody must have dropped it really hard on that side.
So the only thing we can learn from all this crap is:
1. Buy from fellow collectors - they know how to pack.
2. If you buy a boombox off eBay, let the shipping be insured and tell the seller as often as possible how to pack it (it can end up like this but for me it ended up really well)
3. The best is to pick those up in peson after all! I got my VZ2000 from Peter for example and it feels much better if it rides next to you in the car and is not in some package that gets tossed around by some idiots.

Update:

The seller was cool and sent me the money to buy the rear cover. I received the rear cover today and will install it next week. :-)

Yesterday, I realized that the silver cover for the horizontal switch above the Super Woofer knob is missing:

When I received the box there was just a black shaft.

I've contacted the seller and he doesn't have it. :sadno:

Anyone have an extra (prolly not, but it's worth asking)? I think it's the same one on the 767, 777, 1000, 909, etc.

Go!
