There was just no time to waste, I had to dig into this one!

As mentioned here: "Had to work for this one!" I picked up this Sanyo M-X650K off Craigslist cheap, for the most part, not working and filthy as heck. I think someone may have used some lube spray on the knobs and I also think it may have been sitting in water or another liquid because there is a stain on the bottom. It also needs a new antenna.

No real gouges in the bodywork, no dents in the grill. The girl I got it from told me it was her fathers and he had it since new. Anyone know the year of these radios?

It was dirty inside...and bugs

You can't tell in this picture, but what is really interesting about these speakers is, the rubber surround is inverted. Meaning it doesn't bulge up, the surround goes backwards. Strange, never seen that before.

I need to fully repaint the front grill, it's totally rusted. I will take care of that tomorrow.
Looks pretty good even without the grill.

Let's put her together and see what we got....

It's coming back to life :w00t:

OK, now we've got it! :-D

It had a few bad solder joints...and I think there maybe more. I will have a second look. But overall, I'm very happy. $30 and some elbow grease.

I have to say, the build quality of this radio is top notch. The sound quality matches it for sure!

Nice pickup for sure!! I would paint the speakers and the grill black. Silver grills hide what's behind them too much.

This is a beautiful sounding radio, I grabbed one for nz_boom last year, and by God I was tempted to keep it.

Lovely score Chris, and top work getting it into shape.

You know, I was thinking of doing a different color. Doesn;t Melly have one with a blue grill? I need to hit him up. I agree, I never knew there was a chrome ring under there!

I agree, a little work ad's to the feeling satisfaction! I guess $30 was a good price for this radio.

Last night I only got a little face time with her since I didn't get it working till after midnight and wifey was asleep. But the sound seemed full and rich, can't wait to hear it today at full volume!

Any local buy is a good buy. Shoot, $30 would be the shipping cost so you are 1,000x ahead of the game and it's a nice complete looking boomer.

Chris looking good. Bit of hint for speakers. Use a permanent marker to color them black again. Will look sharp and doesn't change paper weight at all

I hadn't thought of that! PLUS, I used my wifes car and her gas to go get it  :-D

Were these originally black speakers???? I thought them may have been cream colored or off white.

I do that on tweeters, but for woofers there's too much material IMO. Plus sometimes woofer cones aren't smooth like tweeters are.

No works on woofers with wide tip marker and when your done there's no lines after it dries. Done it to many black woofers ;-)

These speakers look very dry and fragile....I don't think I'll be doing that. during cleaning I was worried they might tear, had to go real easy. I might be looking for new woofers and tweeters. I think this radio got a lot of sun. The tuner and cassette are yellow and the grill was faded. It looked silver, but in fact was black or maybe charcoal at one time. It was also rusted big time.

So, I fired up the blasting machine and made quick work of stripping it down to bare metal and then primed it!

Nice! But yeah, dust it, it looks too wet.
And you got any plastic companies nearby, that can make new windows for you?

Reli, you have been reading my mind all the way through this project!

There actually are! I was thinking of pulling the plexi and taking it over there and seeing what they got....maybe buy a 4'x8' sheet and do all my radios :w00t: :-D

Oh the red was the primer .

I understand why you did blue, but I'm not diggin it man. You should do the grill black and then put blue on the plastic case behind the grill. Mucho cooler I think ;)
