Reflections of shipping experiences.

Bought a Kenwood MDX-G3 earlier this year from Japan, proxy shipped with Buyee, I thought there's no way it could arrive damaged as I paid £120 for shipping alone!

Unfortunately, it was damaged so bad that the display cicuit board snapped in half and I had to do a bodge job to fix that but the MD drive was DOA and I couldn't save that one. I got a full refund as I had insurance through Buyee and the CD and Cassette work really well.
i have had things shipped from Jauce Japan, and i all i can say is "buyer be-very-aware" i haven't had any major damaged goods, but most of the radios i bought, all were all in bad shape, nearly all the Sharp Radios i have bought, 2x GF787. GF858, Nec Rm2900, all have had snapped door hinges, My 858 was so bad i had to make up a Frankenstein one out of the 858 and a 575. one 787 has a Blown Amp and a broken door hinge, non of them did anything when i got them, just crackled, until i used half a can of switch cleaner to bring them to life. you see vague description and very grainy pictures that have been taken from 6 feet away, and looks like they have been taken on an Early 2000s Nokia camera phone, all deliberate to hide the condition and any damage, the radios that have chrome Buttons seem to pit real bad, Chrome ends on the handles pit bad, Chrome rims around the Speakers all pit real bad. the sellers are very clever, i'm not saying they do it on purpose, but it's weird that they all do it, it just stinks of dishonesty, but every one seems to be doing it now, even on eBay people are taking really bad, Grainy poor Quality Pictures to Throw you off. i've stopped buying from Japan now, Most of the Radios are really Bad, it's just Not worth the Risk. Most of my radios i got, Shipping alone is £150-£160, then there's all the charges and fees, Just to receive dead radios that need major work. not worth it, major head ache..

Yeah I buy a lot from Japan and I agree. It seems as if the stuff that makes it online is the trash (condition wise) they can't sell domestically and know people fawn over it outside of Japan.

Yes you are absolutely correct, that's what drawn me in, the excitement of buying something that is not available in our own countries, I was a massive fan of the GF575, about 20 years ago i saw pictures of the GF787 and the 858 with differing features, i wanted them straight away, i had pictures of them for years on my computer, but when i got older i thought its either now or never, so i bought them, only to receive them with broken door hinges and and one with broken hinge and blown amp. i think you hit the nail when you said that the stuff on there are all Rickety Raggerty junk that people don't want, and it's people like us that just jump in feet first and buy them while not having a clue how bad they really are.. but i learned quite Quick, well, after the 3rd radio, i learned there was pattern going on, then i learned what was happening, that they were all junk, and not to do it anymore..

100% with you mate. I tend to only buy smallish items from Japan now, portable cassette players, CDs/MDs. For how much it ends up costing, getting 1 item in 10 that is flawless isn't worth it for me.

We got another one. Cash Converters sent me a Sharp GF-575 with no box and just in bubble wrap. Such a shame as I was excited for this. You can see below how that went...

This reminds me of the time USPS delivered an empty box with the ends of the box open and nothing inside lol. They put a note inside telling me the contents were lost in shipping .

Contacted them instantly and asked why they thought it was a good idea to send a 40 year old boombox in bubble wrap and no box, they offered a full refund but wanted me to send it back to them. Complete waste of everyones time and I also didn't have a box big enough. I asked for an 80% partial refund as I thought even with the cracks, I could either take parts or turn it into a bit of a project but they rejected my offer.

I've sent it back in the same packaging they sent it to me in. Refund will be in once they receive it.

Yes Partial refund was an actual eBay option years ago, but they took that away, so now it's either you keep it, or send it back, if you want a partial refund now you have to contact them privately. You will see that 575 back on eBay next week for about £50 less, they will still try and get a good price for it, i wouldn't touch it unless it was dirt cheap, i suppose you could repair it but that looked pretty bad, so even if you could have repaired it, it wouldn't be the same again.

F'em.
Send it back exactly as they did but make sure you take pics of it so they can't dispute how you packed it.
I always take pics of everything I sell during packing to show exactly how I packed it.
Then after it sells and I label and tape it up, I take a few more pics.

A few weeks ago I had a fairly expensive beer sign lightly damaged during delivery.
I contacted the seller and they offered a partial refund.
I politely refused telling them I didn't really want to repair that kind of damage (cracked plastic housing) and I'd rather return it.
They ended up giving me a full refund.
Needless to say, I gave them a great review :)

This whole story gets worse!

I went to the post office with my return label QR code and it was rejected as the return label was for packages 2kg or under!
Now, the seller is ignoring me so in 3 days I'll let ebay sort it out.

4.5 lbs., lol.
Best case scenario is they don't respond in 3 and ebay issues you a full refund and you keep the box.

My gf 777 was in almost as bad a shape but I bought it that way lol.
The ****ed up part was the box was
Still mostly working. I just glued it back together and filled in the remaining holes then painted it and I still have that box 17 years later but I modified it and gave away the parts I didn't use.

It's ok, when you explain the situation, Ebay should side with you, If the seller doesn't respond to them, You should get a full refund, and you will probably end up with the Busted radio as well, so if they don't communicate they will end up with neither the money or the returned radio. it will be their own fault.
