I agree although.........................I personally find it has less appeal than many other boxes BUT......................this is one of the aspects that make collecting BB's so interesting. I've seen many a 'naff' looking, perhaps cheapo, box that's done itself no favours with the build colour(s) but it's all a part of BB history reflecting the varied approaches that different producers took to market their products. They are definitely 'of their time' and I feel that this is the particular appeal of these boxes. I'd buy it!

never knew you had the aiwa that's quite a nice radio to say the least.
This beauty arrived during the week and, boy, what a surprise. There was little info available and an image that seemed to portray quite a small box and not the big beast that turned up - but what turned up far exceeded the £25 I paid. This box sounds so wonderful! There's "a belt needed in the tape deck" (!) but no sweat there. It's also farkin' HEAVY (for ME!) and worth far more than I paid. I got really lucky!

The only downside being a 1" x 0.5" piece of casing from by the handle mount that came adrift in transit. It's a neat, clean break and will fit neatly back in place with minimal work.

You're right again, JVC Floyd! I thought I'd be getting a pretty standard lil' ol' three-piecer - I need two handles and a can of Popeye's Spinach to lift this! If ever I see another available I'll do my best to grab it, it's such good quality. Are the speaker cases wooden?

not sure if they are wood to be honest , i only had the woofers and the main unit which had a passive radiator that was driven by the main speakers through ports that passed from holes in the speaker cabinets to the holes in the main unit . the reason being that it was cheaper to ship only these parts that needed re foaming , the radiator was mounted in the bottom of the main unit and had a rectangular port at the bottom that the sound emitted from. although i have seen several models up close i never got inside the speaker cabinets themselves. oh and that was a different box that i worked on .
