Man...I know you call me a purist, Norm. But I'm really loving your resto-mod Kaboom too!
The copper color really brightens it up. I think this pic shows it best:

Wow wow wow wow wow!

Norm, norm, norm - those tweeter mounts look f'ing sick in there! I had no idea where those rings and stuff were going to end up and be visible when you were all done. Seriously, nice job on the resto.

...My guess is that the original kaboom frequency response is probably 40 to 14khz. Now, it's probably more like 40 - 20khz.

With MY mod, the kaboom now sounds great with ANY music, even classical. This morning, I listened to Love-is-blue by Paul Mariat and the sprinkling of the cymbals, the fluid tone of the stringed instruments and the pleasant ringing of the xylophones........ all comes through crystal clear...

Sounds like the perfect upgrade.

C'mon Kaboom owners, you know you want it :-)
I've only got a beat-up RV-DP200 & I'm in!

Norm, do you post on s2g? If so, mentioning this might bring more interest. If you don't post on s2g, let me know if you want me to mention it on there for you...

Dang, SAF -- you crack me up. My racoon looks much prettier than that mangy looking thing you found.

Isolator -- I post there infrequently but it was simply too much work to transfer the whole post there. Too many pictures, too much copy and paste. In other words, too much work for a lazy guy. I got burnt out making the post here already. |-) |-) ;-) So bottom line is.... if you feel like doing all the work, you have my blessing.

Love the two tone colors!

Well done SD.

I would go for an upgrade but shipping would be a bitch. I do have the original box & styro foams but the cost of shipping. :annoyed:

You can do it yourself because my plan is to release the kit as a DIYer with all the parts and detailed instructions. Some simple soldering skills will make a much better installation but I can make this with EZ connect tab terminals too. Also, when I did the project, I wanted to showcase the tweeters so you all can see what's there. For those that want a discreet original look, just paint the bracket flat black instead of reflective silver and since the tweeters are all black too, I suspect they will be all but invisible. But they look so damn cool that I'd want everyone to see 'em.

I was at Norm's today and I can tell you it is the best sounding Kaboom I have ever heard. The addition of the tweeters adds so much detail to the music, not just treble, and it can actually function as a nice sounding low volume box. When cranked this thing pumps out the bass (of course) but now has a well rounded sound and would easily crush any other one-piece out there in richness of sound. I am absolutely doing this mod to one of my Kabooms and would recommend all Kaboom owners do it. You would have a whole new appreciation for the performance of the Kaboom after the mod...

...not even close. That Sony 3 way is on another level, but it will wipe any 1 piece... :-D
