Like you'll really be able to hear the difference through your computer monitor with the 1/2" speakers and from a file recorded with a mono dual purpose still/video camera....

SUPERB work!! I'm not a kaboom lover in the slightest, but I could possibly be swayed by this one, beautiful colours, Norm.

Great job! And the lettering? Did I miss how you did that? Or is it a trade secret?

Rock On.

You should be able to hear a difference if you have another kaboom model with no tweets, Plus I have a surround sound system on computer :-D :-D

Kabooms don't have much in the way of lettering Rick.

Anyhow, kabooms are boxes of few words and simply do their talking by carrying a big stick!

Seriously, if you don't have a kaboom in your arsenal, you don't know what you are missing. And now with this tweet mod -- this might could be one of the absolutely best sounding boxes in anyone's collection.

Wow, that was a hell of a ride!

I have to say, your color combination really looks great.

I have read so many threads where people bad mouth the lack of highs. I have never owned one of these and have limited exposure to them.

But after reading the first thread a month ago, I didn't know what to expect. But this is a real nice project / up grade / resto....what ever you want to call it....

NICE WORK NORM!

The restoration work in excellent, but the tweeter mod is nothing short of astonishing.

If you decide to sell this as an "upgrade kit" for those of us with a modicum of technical expertise, I'd be first in the queue... :-)

Excellent question and glad you brought this up Isolator42.
Well, this might just be the perfect time to ask. I got 4 more kabooms to upgrade, so I will definitely be ordering more parts except it looks like I won't be able to get more parts until november.

Just want to ask before I order my parts:
Besides Isolator42..... Anyone else would be interested in a kaboom tweeter upgrade kit?

I can't see shipping something the size of a kaboom back/forth being worth it for me to perform the upgrade. But if I can supply all the parts including tweeters, brackets, crossover filters, screws and detailed instructions.... would that be of interest?

and lives near norm --
gets us some 'miles from mint' kabooms-
drops them off at norms--
and-

Wow, Wow Wow! Amazing job, Norm!

I would be in for an upgrade kit! I already have the tweets for the project, just need that metal bridge thingy. I might even go in for 2 kits......In case I find another Kaboom in another color or one that I can paint to the color of my liking.

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments. Just to be clear -- it's not red, it's copper with a reddish/maroon mask across the front. I know computer monitors could skew the colors but it's definitely copper.

Mario -- I will keep you in mind when I order some more parts.

Mr. Norm, I'd also love to have a pair of tweeter brackets along with some o' them tweeters and crossover filters too!!!

Of course, then I would just need to get the kaboom for it! LOL! :dunce:

Lookin' at it all over again and just LOVIN' the MOD!!!

:-O You don't have a Kaboom, Mr. Stranj? :nonono:

OMG, you don't know what you're missing if you've never heard one. The bass on those is simply out of this world amazing. Seriously. And while many would lead you to believe that there are zero highs, that's not entirely true. The kaboom actually does have decent highs since the main driver is only 3-3/8" -- some large tweeters are that size. However, what IS missing is some detail due to from the lack of the highest frequencies. Rock music is terrific and you won't miss anything. But if you listen to classical music, then the kaboom might not be the best choice. My guess is that the original kaboom frequency response is probably 40 to 14khz. Now, it's probably more like 40 - 20khz.

With MY mod, the kaboom now sounds great with ANY music, even classical. This morning, I listened to Love-is-blue by Paul Mariat and the sprinkling of the cymbals, the fluid tone of the stringed instruments and the pleasant ringing of the xylophones........ all comes through crystal clear. Right now, The sounds of silence by Simon and Garfield -- equally pleasing sound -- nothing missing. The sound is so different from before that I would say it even changes the character of the kaboom to some extent. Anyhow I been listening to the kaboom yesterday and today -- non stop. I got a serious feeling that this will be my most listened to box from here on after.
