Well, tomorrow I'm gona get a small travel hair dryer so I can lift the tuner plate off as I'd rather not leave ANY pieces on the front casing when I spray it. Then I will start sanding any areas that need work and if there are scratches I'll fill them after using primer to spot them out. Give me a day or two ;-)

If you ask a question like this of 10 people, you are likely to get 10 answers. The only one that counts is yours. If someone wants you to paint one hugger orange, and you want to paint it purple, then tell me to take a hike and get my own. There will always be those that expect you to worship your boxes and not molest them. If the boxes are nothing but collectible trinkets not to be messed with, then hey you might as well collect stamps and coins. It's your boombox, your hobby, your joy. So if changing the color gives you pleasure, just do it. And if it bothers me, I can get my own and put it behind glass so I can stare at MY original.

Me, I painted this thing and afterwards, couldn't walk by it without looking at it (admiring it). I still can't. It gave me great joy to see the results and I would do it again in a heartbeat. This is the M70c version and in the condition that this thing was before the work, it would've been worth a pretty penny. But that had no bearing and I was determined to do the project. I never regretted it for a second.

There is a company here in Toronto that will chrome plastic. I talked to them about chroming all the knobs and switches for the m50 and they said about $100-$150! Mainly due to the time it woudl take to get jigs etc and set up for them; there are 16 knobs/switches so it makes sense. I thought about chroming the cover, but that might be too much bling for me hahahaa.

Hey stretch. Don't get hung up on the tuner dial. If it's stubborn, leave it alone and don't ruin it. Also, the heat gun method is fine to see if it will come. But I don't suggest you go the chemical route because if it fails, the chemical between the pieces is almost impossible to remove and over time, could behave like paint/chrome remover. Trust me, this from experience. ;-)

Well superduper, I'm ashamed to admit it, but the tuner dial is gone. I removed it, but it will never be used again, lets just leave it at that. So now I need one of those :sadno:
I couldn't remove it with heat or solvent, and each time i tried it just bent more and left little dents, so eventually I was just too upset and pulled it off.

Thanks to some fiduciary issues, as always it seems in the summer, I probably won't be able to finish this boomer for a little bit. I'm thinking now why not just chrome the whole thing and be done with it hahaa. If it isn't done until September, then I'll ask the company to quote me on the whole thing: front cover and all knobs. By then I should be able to get another tuner dial too I hope.
