Factory is nice. But sometimes, we just want to do something for fun and joy. :-D

Nothing wrong with that. But pick a piece of junk to do it with. Theres plenty of them around.

I forgot to mention in the original post that the handle has the slightest curve to it, and the aluminum trim panels have some scratches and a few little dents, so this box is used for sure. I must say tho that the picture I posted sure does make it look minty hahaa.

I love the painted boxes, Melly has done a red and a blue one that I know of and they're GORGEOUS! I think I've seen a white one, too! All M70s.

I would love to see a purple box. JUST DO IT!!!! YEAH!

Well, well, well. I didn't even cast my own vote, but purple is in the lead of the colours. That bottom option, suggesting that I'm crazy and should leave it original got the most votes, but being the crazy man that I am, purple it is!
I'm thinking purple front, black back, I'll leave the chrome knobs chrome, but what colour for the switches? I don't mind them being metallic, in fact i wish they too were chrome but that might be hard to do as they are plastic.
If anyone has or knows of an M50 back case in decent shape I could use one. The antenna is gone from this box, no prob, but the entire antenna unit was carved out of the case! Now just a hole in the plastic remains, no base to support a new antenna so I need the whole rear case.
Should I start a new thread when I begin the process? or just keep this one?
What do you like more, hotdogs or hamburgers?

Woops! These radios, while full of parts, just love to be taken apart :-D
Guess I have to paint it now, you know, because it's apart anyway.

Edit*
Any trick to get the aluminum tuner dial face off the front? i got the clear and top cap off, but the big flat face seems well glued and when I try to push a bit it makes little dents. Should I just leave it on?

You can either mask it which works well, or for less work and better results, you can remove it with a heatgun. Carefully applying heat to the aluminum while lifting at an edge (don't force! When it's ready to come loose, you will know it because it takes very little effort). A hair dryer works too which is safer but takes longer. But my heatgun has various nozzles so I can concentrate it. Still, unless the trim shows some evidence that it's at least partially loose and open to the suggestion of removal, might be best to leave it be if its' affixed tightly.

sarcasm aside, you can also drizzle lighter fluid behind the plate. (Dont flood it so t pours out everywhere) It takes repeated applications but it will begin to soften the majority of the adhesives they used and at that point you will be able to seperate it from the plastic without damage (slowly).

My "dirty old man" mind noticed your blatant double entendre. ;-)

I like blue, but someone already has done blue here, and red, and white, but nobody did orange or purple yet to my knowledge so I'll likely do both of them eventually. This time around tho, I think purple is what I'm trying for. I do love a nice tangerine metallic though, my fav colour is orange.

I'm still conflicted between orange and purple. I love both, although orange a bit more, but the purple would look incredible too. When I'm at that stage I'll price both colours out to see if there is a difference. If not, then I may choose orange. The M50 looks like an orange kinda box right? Purple would look better on the M70 I think, so I'll wait to do purple until I get an M70. That is for the next 10 minutes of course until my mind changes again haha. I'll try the hair dryer trick in a couple days. I don't have one so need to get a travel size.

Too many chiefs, not enough Indians.

OR

The chief is asking the indians for advice. All the indians.

SO the results might reflect it. :-O
