I was thinking of changing the colour of this boomer. The corners are a bit rubbed, and you can see past the colour coat on those areas so it is probably not too valuable to collectors anymore. It sounds awesome, and I have it open right now and the innards are excellent including those blue woofs  . Should I change the colour of the case and give it some spice? Should I keep it original as you think it's in decent shape and I should find a worse box to colour? Perhaps I'm nuts and need another outlet?
Let me know in the poll. All colours will be glossy metallic, no flats for me.
This is how she sits as of 6pm this evening.

It's ok, as long as some people vote. I was leaning towards either purple or orange myself, but when I take pics of it sometimes I think it looks too good to potentially ruin with colour. That's why I need the votes to help sway me one way or the other. Purple or orange case with white switches?

Looks like it has a little red in it , could match to that. Thinking of cars, gloss brings out imperfections, flat hides them. So you may want to fill in any gouges etc before the final paint.

In all seriousness, a few "rubbed" corners or even scratches dont really mean they arent of any value to collectors. War bruises add character to these old radios in my opinion. Mint perfection is a bit unrealistic and most of the boxes that may still be in those "perfect" conditions do not get enjoyed.

I have several sealed new in box blasters. WTF do i do with them? Nothing!!! lol. So don't fixate on perfect cosmetics. That radio looks to be in darn good shape and perfect to enjoy. Don't paint it. Its defacing history to do so.

The only boxes that should be customized or changed are those that are seriously past the point of return. And yours is far from this category.

Just my humble opinion.

If you ask a question like this of 10 people, you are likely to get 10 answers. The only one that counts is yours. If someone wants you to paint one hugger orange, and you want to paint it purple, then tell me to take a hike and get my own. There will always be those that expect you to worship your boxes and not molest them. If the boxes are nothing but collectible trinkets not to be messed with, then hey you might as well collect stamps and coins. It's your boombox, your hobby, your joy. So if changing the color gives you pleasure, just do it. And if it bothers me, I can get my own and put it behind glass so I can stare at MY original.

Me, I painted this thing and afterwards, couldn't walk by it without looking at it (admiring it). I still can't. It gave me great joy to see the results and I would do it again in a heartbeat. This is the M70c version and in the condition that this thing was before the work, it would've been worth a pretty penny. But that had no bearing and I was determined to do the project. I never regretted it for a second.

I wish there was an option for MORE than one colour!!

Go in HARD, Stretch! How about diagonally grading colour from purples fading into orange??

What I did for the Taira (in my avatar) was to photoshop a photo of the radio and add lots of layers of varying colours and transparencies to see what works.

Good luck!

Rock On.

Right on Rick. Had naysayers nagged you into restoring your M90 back to factory stock color, your Tiara would've never been, and I see you posing with it so I just KNOW how proud you are of the result. Sometimes, in retrospect, we can always find a few things we might've done differently, but I can't believe for one second that you regretted your Tiara.

My maroon M70 inspired Melly to paint his red, then blue, then white.

The red SK-550 in my avatar inspired BluFuz to paint his blue with similar themed badging and speakers....

Factory is nice. But sometimes, we just want to do something for fun and joy. :-D

Awesome responses guys! I was thinking of keeping it as-is simply due to the amount of electricals inside that if not put back correctly would ruin the whole project haha (like the tuner string maze). I was liking purple or orange to be honest, and 'plum crazy' seems like something wild enough to fit my style.
I guess we'll see how I feel about it all in a few days or so heh.

eric--the cheap//easy//fun way to customize the looks of boxes --
and to hide some dents. chips, cigar melts, etc etc

are with the millions of removable stickers-
its endless designing---

all without the tedious masking // spraying work
and without ever changing the 'factory' $$ value

yes--sort of goofy ..........
but --so are boomboxes :w00t: :hmmm: :-)

My first choice would be leave it as is, second choice would be the Plum Crazy suggestion and third would be Plum crazy with the Glue treatment of a multi color pattern or fading of some sort.

Now that being said I agree with SuperD that it's your box and you should do what you want, take our opinions with a grain of salt..

Yes I agree Blaster, but I like to take most things with some salt :-P it just enhances flavour!

Nothing wrong with that. But pick a piece of junk to do it with. Theres plenty of them around.

I forgot to mention in the original post that the handle has the slightest curve to it, and the aluminum trim panels have some scratches and a few little dents, so this box is used for sure. I must say tho that the picture I posted sure does make it look minty hahaa.
