OH man!!

I really want to see this monster. :breakdance:
Sorry dude. I've tried uploading to Photobucket but the retarded 'Full version' of this site they give you on mobiles hasn't got most of the options like URL link options, emoticons etc.

I'll post some pics when I get access to the home computers tonight.

** Final Update **

Finally bit the bullet and uploaded all my pics to Photobucket.

Sanding and routing finished:

Performance wise, IMHO, the V5.0 is more in the AC Mini System realm. The highs are crystal clear, the mids are nicely in balance and the bass is solid, deep and controlled. The bass and treble controls can be left at 'flat' for most music styles.

As you can see, the cabinet is very deep thus allowing the drivers as much air volume in each sealed cabinet as possible for the deepest bass possible.

The fit and finish is much improved over my previous efforts.

I would love to do a comparison of the V5.0 with an Exos-9 or a DiamondBoxx.

This was a no compromise project. No corners were cut and no alterations were made to the design to follow fashion or looks.

Total weight fully loaded came out at 17.0 kgs.

As all parts are brand new, the V5.0 is under warranty! :-)

The total spend on this project exceeded my original budget but for the performance on offer, I think it was worth it.

Thanks for the kind comments guys and gal.

James..... :-)

That's MASSIVE! :w00t: :jawdrop:
Yep, it's big alright! When I was doing my 'pre build' DIY Boombox research, I kept coming across the same comments from builders on completion of their projects - 'It sounds nice and loud but it's weak on bass'.

Part of the cause almost every time is undersized speaker cabinets in relation to the speaker size. The 'huge speakers in a small cabinet' deal sure looks cool but it simply doesn't get the job done when deep bass was part of the original brief.

Here is a classic example of where the builder had too much speaker and not enough cabinet:

Despite using the same amp, the 6 inch drivers in the tiny cabinet are weak on bass - not surprising really.

Awesome build James! Just based on looks alone, I dont think the Exos would be much of a challenge for that beast!

Thanks SLO. I guess we'll never know if the Exos-9 can hang with the V5.0 - I think they were both designed with the same idea in mind though - performance over all else!

This is my final build - the V5.0 is the box I wanted to build from the start - it just took me 5 builds to work out what I really wanted! :-)

I now hand over DIY duties to hardmen and the other aspiring builders out there who are keen on creating their own monster boxes!

Looking forward to seeing the OP barrel Boombox - should be an interesting project.

I'm also looking forward to getting an update re Norm's Boombox project.

James.... :-)

That's one BIG boombox! Shame we can't hear it but I reckon it must be awesome :-)
Thanks man. It's around 70cms long which is much smaller than the 85cm long Master Blaster. Total weight fully loaded came out at 17.0 kgs so it's not too heavy to carry around. It's definately not a shoulder job though. :-)

17.0 kgs "not to heavy to carry around"? Speak for yourself, even my shopping trolley couldn't handle that weight! :w00t:

Well I can promise you it's definately a one handed operation for able bodied folks. :-)

I used the special acoustic fill I normally use - the stuffing from my wife's old cushions - Great stuff. I used exactly one cushion per channel. :-)

Do you glue the fill against the wall so that it can't get into the speaker baskets? Or does that even matter?

The long fibres of the fill combined with the amount of fill and the huge magnets tends to keep the fill from going anywhere near the inner workings of the drivers.

If there ever is a concern due to amount or type of fill you have on hand, I have in a couple of home projects in the past, wrapped the back of the woofer basket with window screen and duct tape, sort of like AR had done attaching it to baskets on their early woofers in the AR2 etc IIRC.

They didn't do it later on and I know I pulled a bit of stuffing our of some AR18's drivers and the like but don't know if it affected the sound or not as it wasn't piled in there

For some reason.... I have a feeling you'll be making another some day. I don't believe we've truly seen the last of the jimmyjimmy DIY series.
