Thanx SLO!! It was a bit tricky to pull off this time since everything is so tight in there & I almost couldn't finish it off. I still may add LEDs to the tweeters if I can find room & come up with a good design for them.....

It sounds very good with M50 woofers too.

Lookin great! Are you still gonna do the one thing that you wanted to do that we talked about, or was it going to be too much of a hassle to get those LEDs in there?

Hey, are the tweeters piezos, if so I think mine are dead. My M80 is so muffled, it almost seems like they're dead. From everything I've heard, this box sounds all right, but I beg to differ.

Thanx JVC! Thanx Caution! It was fun to finally fire it up & check it out in action for the first time too. I had an idea of course but it's not the same as looking at the finished product & enjoy the improved sound.

@ Caution: The tweeters are actually quite good moving coil cone tweeters but crossed high & the old woofers are not as good as the M50's since they have a mesh dustcap & a straight up old school paper cone instead of the uerethane coated cone & chromed plastic dustcap version of the M50's It makes a difference & the smooth dome of the latter boosts higher frequency performance to about a 6KHz roll-off & mates with the tweeters much better without the dreaded 3-6KHz hole...

If yours is like mine was, there's plenty of treble but mid clarity is poop & bass is poop!! If so, dig up some M50 cans & slam them in there. It should take about 1/2 hour if you are familiar with working on these JVC's.....

You have to remove the chassis first tho so know what you are doing first before diving in....

You are a crossover guru, I'm normally a numbers guy but this stuff is blowin my mind... great stuff.
I am still on the hunt for M50 woofs for my M80, I want to do it now that I've heard how much better it sounds.I have to take it apart to upgrade the tweets anyway. So yeah, about the tweets, I think you can fit LEDs in there, so if you want them, I have a bunch of yellow ones the size of a grain of sand.

If the tweeters work, they don't need upgrading, just better crossover points that drop the roll-off point from 8500Hz to 5000-6000Hz so that dead spot in the upper MId/Treble is eliminated. You could also do what I did & find a woofer that fits & has a higher roll-off with newer materials. I used M50 cans.

Also, change your old electrolytic crossover caps for Poly-Film & they will sound better & cleaner too...

I had to start at the beginning and read this whole thing through.

Damn man. That is ten tons of work. But that is sick.

No doubt that there is limited space which makes everything so much harder. Good thing you had previous experience building these projects.

Not sure if this question has been asked before, but can you see the lights in the day?

Lighting up the speakers almost corrects the grill design from waffle to circular, turning this radio instantly into a beauty queen.

Another solid project. Congrats.

Thanx LAS!! Glad you like it so much! uH, to answer your question & no it hasn't been asked yet. I haven't taken it out yet in the sunlight but in a brightly lit room the LEDs & glowing woofers can easily be seen & noticed. It also sounds tons better with the M50 woofers over the originals....

Now, I have a 2nd prosonic 9962 to do for myself after I sold my last one to Vintage Man....

Cheers,
Cpl

YUP!! I'm actually involved in a full on Porch upgrade & restoration. I'm stripping 102 years of paint from my original cedar wood porch that was built with the house. I'm using a 50 grit belt sander for the final prep before prime & paint so it will last another 50 years...

After that, it's time for another group video with my again growing herd of RGB Mutants....maybe 'Triumph' or something similar to that....
