Wow I cant even see the speakers on my M80 through the waffles, what color did you paint em??? Looks great
Yeah, when the LED system is off, you can't see the woofers at all, except in very bright light & at the right angle....it's pretty cool.....

Ok, a taste of things to come for the M80...I have to think up a good name for it too....

I want to thank Northerner for inspiring part of the mod shown above with his waffle grill LED mod. He posted a thread & I thought it looked great & wanted to do something similar but with a full RGB system for more punch....

stay tuned....

Grrrrr.....I Hate waiting for parts & supplies......

In the meantime, I think I have a general scheme in mind for the LEDs....the real trick is what kind of room do I have to install the controllers....The M70 & 80 are actually quite cramped but JVC usually incorporates about a half inch of clearance between the chassis & cabinet walls....genius engineers, they were at JVC.....the best...IMHO...the M80 is it's own challenge tho....no tuner window to light this time & space is very limited overall....

Now, it's time to set up the LEDs on the body & speakers & then wait for my fan cable extenders to come in....I'm waiting on the 3-pin connectors from China to come in any day now so I can wire up the sensitivity knob & remote 'eye' on the body of the blaster...

Ok, so here's some pics of the first dry run for the waffle leds.....

Now I have to map out how if possible, I'm gonna light up the tweeters, tape bay, etc...hopefully a full plan will come together by tonight. Once I have the plan in mind, it's time to hammer those LEDs into the various spots on the cab & wait for my wiring to arrive...

Ok, here's how I did it:

Tape & measure - first step

Drill holes and hone out the sides with the bit...

File & finish with a small diamond file....hardly noticeable unless looking straight on....or lit....

Thanx SA, Floyd :-D ....yeah, the 80 is gonna be a bit hectic, fitting the extra cables, controller(s) & LEDs inside but it looks doable & the waffle LEDs are coming out good.....with the M50 woofers, basically a 6.5" version of the M90 woofer, it'll pound it out quite nicely I think....gonna shoot for 1 controller & then see where it goes from there....

wish me luck,
Cpl :w00t: :bang:

hell i love the m50 woofers swap prolly sounds better now. one of the most unique jvc's and over looked boombox model's . i think this is a great build the m80 deserves some respect .

By the way, you can have the name "Project Dyn-o-mite" I hold no rights to it. Lol.

Looking good Cpl. Those waffles are perfect for hiding them!

Ok, now the corner LED holes are drilled & finished

Now I've got to get prepped to secure the leds & center them in the holes I made. After that, finalize the woofer LED placement & epoxy them in to eliminate rattles, etc.....

Stay tuned....should be done in about 4-5 weeks, unfortunately, due to supplies....waiting is the worst when you're 3/4 done.....

Oh, yeah, I decided that the name for this mod is going to be another Godzilla Monster in the true DISCO Chronic tradition to be announced later....

So many places to hide LEDs!
Actually, because of the design, the space is pretty limited as to where I can put them on the front....will definitely be a toned down version of my usual madness....still waiting on fan connector cables for my interconnects....
