Nope. Not mine but thanks for asking. My mods have more style than that. It looks like a Christmas tree puked on that 1. The LED controller is more basic & he mounted the LEDs outside the box, not internally, like mine. Last, it doesn't have any imagination to it. It's just LEDs everywhere, no design to it at all.

Kudos. You took an otherwise boring looking box and brought it to life with a great light show.
I like the way the colors change with the music.
BTW What is the name of the track you have playing in the video?

LOVE IT. Absolutely awesome, Cpl. You are the king of LEDs and I can't wait to see what you do next!

Grail or no, in the end these are just (pricey!) radios--they're not sacred objects. Do what you like, ignore the critics.

I agree they're not sacred objects and love a bit (a lot) of bling...BUT...that Lasonic makes me want to throw up so there are limits!

Nice mod, but, In my opinion, Modifying a grail should be limited to ones ability to put it back to the same condition as found.

There are exceptions to this, of course, such as broken/parts boxes.

If you mod a grail by cutting into it, you will lose part of your audience every time.

Like classic cars with shag carpeting on the ceiling and etched flowers on the windows, the alterations last long after the cool fad wears off.

First off. Everything I've done can be UN-done, easily with some epoxy or plastic repair kit at body shops, etc. Repaint & voila!! The tuner leds, VU's etc. ALL can be removed again by even the most amateur hobbyist if they are familiar with boomboxes & tools. The chassis, cabinet & ALL other parts of the boomer are still very serviceable & the unit can be serviced as normal with a few extra connections to deal with. That's it.

If it was in minty shape when I got it, I wouldn't have gone so far. Since it was covered in grime but fully working, it was a prime candidate for a 'custom' restoration, as I call it, since it isn't a full restoration in the traditional sense. If it was a rare unicorn like the early Conions or an early MARANTZ, SILVER, National, etc, then I would not do it but M90's are like Firebirds or Corvettes. There are a million of them compared to other models, even tho they are kick ass cars. The m90 & m70 are like that to me & I did not hesitate to mod it fully. Its pre-sold to a friend anyway. 2 other guys on eBay are hot for 1 too & I had to turn them down for the time being. No joke.

Besides, whether you agree or not with what I've done, you can't deny it takes imagination, determination & a bit of artistic flair to pull this off the way I did & I could care less if traditional collectors would appreciate it. I can park that box anywhere & have an instant DISCO dance party.

Well I might be in the minority but I love it...takes a lot of time and skill to pull this off successfully. I would love a chronic box...I'd love a mint all original one too mind but I can only imagine the effect of pulling this box out at a party...it well and truly rocks in my book...it's all a matter of opinion and each to their own, nothing wrong with that :)

Top job Cpl! :)

Not the minority I am sure. I think I am just over reacting due to the old cars i have worked on.
I have seen "improvements" such as:
-flipping the back leaf springs over so it rides like a rodrod.
-cutting holes in the dash to install a cool 8 track player.
-ripping up an expensive interior to install a cheap china made sunroof, which later fell down on the occupant.

Back to topic, it is important that we keep the boombox hobby alive and interesting. and your m90 definately does that. :)

Here's how it looks all finished except the tweeter trims which are drying with their second coat of paint, right now I still have to put in the switches for the various sections.

Thanx northerner, :-)

The really good news is the lighting is much tidier, & quieter too. I managed to isolate the LED circuits from the wires that carry the audio signals to & from the heads, & the Pre-amp stage is dead quiet too. White is the noisiest color because all three LEDs are lit but even white is dead quiet too..... YAY!! :w00t: :w00t:
