Heyya, ALL =)

I just picked up my first JVC M90 in relatively good cond. & fully working. Even the music search works reliably. The Tuner glass & VU/Cass. windows were in great shape & clear, not fogged up. The tuenr glass does have 1 hazy spot where a previous owner, probably not James, tried to fix & glue the top tuner dial trim onto the radio & failed.

I'm working on it still so it isn't perfect looking yet. I did clean the glaze of nicotine & tar from the front & returned it to clean & it looks fresher. Here, take a look:

Want one!

OK, I know, who doesn't, but some day, I'll get lucky and find a cosmetically mint one that just needs some soldering and some rubber to make it perfect.

Very nice.
What do you usually use to clean up the nicotine stains?
I find Fantastic to work...well...Fantastic!
My C-100 had more nicotine than paint when I received it. Not anymore.

I used soap & water, a small toothbrush to clean the rigdes on the knobs & Novus Plastic Cleaner(#1) & polish(#2). Next step is to remove the guts from the front cabinet so I can clean the inside of the tuner window & remove the glue & hazy residue while replacing the top tuner trim.

More to come....

I managed to follow the service manual & was able to successfully remove the rear cabinet & separate the chassis from the front cabinet to service the speakers & refresh the grills. I removed the dented & ugly top trim for the tuner glass & polished both the inside & outside surfaces. The tuner dial plate itself is clean, spotless. The inside was all original, as far as I can tell & so far only 1 rear cabinet screw was missing. Here's some pics of the almost finished restoration of my dirty M90. Its a fully working example & she gets loud too man. Lots of BASS!!!

I still have to freshen the tape section & buff the window clean but there are 0(ZERO) scratches & it'll shine like a diamond very soon.

ennn...Fantastic is really harsh on delicate finishes. Warm dish soap & water is best for grime & grease, etc. A soft bristle toothbrush is your best friend. It got to be SOFT bristle or your gonna scratch things up FAST!! Novus cleaner & polish works real well without the abrasive & corrosive crap you find in Fantastic. eek!

Cheers,
Cpl
