I got mine for $10 more than this roughly 9 months ago. Had the deck fixed cheap and I'm happy as a clam. Mine works 100% now.

Aside of some minor cigarette blemishes on the top of mine, I'd say its in about the same cosmetic condition. I do believe I can fix that, though.

As for pricing.... I still think there's some money out there.

That auction had some characteristics that I think kept the price so reasonable. Non-working deck and the fact that it was being sold by one of those "isoldit" retail stores. Those places do terrible testing of their electronics. I've noticed that their sales for many items go as much as 30% below other auctions for similar electronics & cameras.

I think there's a growing number of people out there who just don't want to take on project boxes. So, getting one like this for that price, with battery corrosion... doesn't surprise me.

I think getting an M90 for this price is awesome value, and gives me hope that I'll one day have one.

I'm of the mind however that it's not so much economic down turn as much as change in what's trendy/desirable. We may be going through a stage where old school boxes aren't as hot with the general public as they recently were. There will always be people with money that will follow trends, I'm of the opinion that these are the people generally paying big bucks for grails for the sake of having one, more so than the savvy collector who's educated in the genuine values of them and who's not going to pay 'insane' amounts for something simply due to 'fake' or temporary increases in what someone's willing to pay.

It just seems to take the right radio in the right music video/movie to get it soaring in 'value', if the Discolite has taught us anything, it's not necessarily anything to do with overall quality and performance but current trends and kitsch appeal. The retro 80s popularity seems to be waning abit overall in western culture, but some things have 'stuck' again and aren't going out of fashion any time soon. The Discolite's been around long enough to pretty much retain it's ludicrous asking price for a while to come. But I look at some of the boxes I've picked up recently and they're almost 1/3 to half the price the same models were selling for early last year. But, I've only been collecting for 18 months or so, and would never pretend to know everything, plus the .au market is much different to the u.s but I did pass on a $200 Discolite about 8 months before the Madonna video happened....

It's all open to interpretation and everyone's probably got a different point of view, and lots of your guys have been in this collecting game a hell of a lot longer than me. I always enjoy reading everyone's observations. I'm not sure where I was going with this...

I think I just wanted to write a long post.

Great score for the dude that got that M90 though!

Rock On.
