So what is the big hype about the M90s? Reliability, sound, features, etc..?

Ummm, Yes!

Okay how about it's one of the best one piece boxes ever made. It's loud, bassy, clean, very nice features, nice tuner, great tape deck if it's working properly. About the only thing that isn't outstanding are the looks, it's very plain looking mainly due to the monotone drab color. If your looking for one of the best one piece boxes the M90 is in the competition but if your just looking for the best sound out of any boombox no matter how many pieces there are a number of better boxes available.

:agree: totally with MB84 (except maybe about the looks comment). The looks of the M90 don't bother me at all. I think when the speakers are their original blue color, the box comes alive in appearance. The dull faded woofers suck all the life out of it.

:agree:
I'm only generalizing the looks in comparison to other much livelier boxes but your right if they have the true deep blue color on the woofs that it really wakes them up. When the woofs are grey it just kind of puts the looks to sleep.

i am not surprised at all. i remember at one point someone talking about what a fantastic investment boomboxes were going to be and how they were just going to keep going up and up.
well every one has there own ideas about the way things are.
i honestly think that there will be some even lower prices on boomboxes in the coming months.
i mean if jvc ever did do a modern version of a m90 i highly doubt it would be very sucessful for the price this one went for.
i mean for sure it would have to be a fine line balancing the cost to produce it with the price to sell it.
400 bucks for the king of the hill boombox sounds about right to me. i think there is a lot more boomboxes out there than people really know.
unfortunately most of them end up in the trash.

i sort of dont agree about prices going down --

the condition means everything --
the wealthy buyers are not affected by the recession -
so the will//can PAY for the $$ best goods-

but - yes - the lesser condition boxes
--which 'po folks' buy --are $$ suffering :sadno: :-D

for example - that same minty m90 -the one that
was sold to an aussie member for $2000 plus $300 s/h
--would prolly get $2000 TODAY !!

For me, condition is everything. I was watching this one on ebay but didnt bid because it just didnt meet my standards. I'm not at all wealthy, but I am willing to pay for what I want. Mint and very good condition are two very different things to me.

rick --last nights 425 score was just a 'user' condition box
with a non-working deck -

but still - it was an awesome low price - even for 'these days'---
the last few like that --sold recently on ebay for about 700

i paid about that much for henry tais goofy jamaican m90 :-D

:agree: Any M90 that's not trashed usually brings in $600+ and this one wasn't trashed so $425 was a great price.

I think the prices will bounce back once the recession is over. Boomboxes aren't made anymore, and the supplies are limited. It's all about supply and demand :-)

That is scary Ira so does that mean we are dead wrong and prices will freefall? M90's will be selling for $50 and the garbage men will refuse to haul away M70's?

no -- i mean that i DO agree with you guys --
i think the prices on any rare quality collectors items --
eventually increase

I agree to disagree.
M-90 (The most sought after one) going for that little just proves a softening market.
People are not Lusting after Boomboxes like they used to.
Much less any luxury items for that matter. :sadno:
A year ago that same exact box in the same exact shape would have gone for nearly double the price.
Broken deck and all.
Markets fluctuate and we are in a bad economy right now.
There are plenty of deals out there because every one is SELLING and not many are buying.
Not to say prices wont be up again but right now people are just not spending any money.
More power to all if you can still spend big bucks on a box but I think I am not alone when I say my collecting days are over for now.

Frank I think that means you agree with us. We agree prices are down due to the economy however we also believe it's only temporary until jobs come back and pay checks start moving up again. It may be a few years before that really happens but it will happen to some degree. We probably won't see a complete return to the spend happy days of just a few years ago but things will get better.
